What can you substitute buttermilk for in a cake recipe?!

Question:

What can you substitute buttermilk for in a cake recipe?

im making cupcakes and the origional recipe says to use a cup of buttermilk...which i dont have...what else can i use?

Answers:
Pour a cup of regular milk and take out one tablespoon. Add one tablespoon of vinegar (white or apple cider) and let is sit for a minute - it will get a bit chunky.

Buttermilk has an acid in it that reacts with baking soda - the vinegar replaces the acid you need.

7/8 cup of regular milk and 1/8 cup lemon juice

You can mix 1tsp vinegar into 1 cup milk.

You can use yogurt... just read the article I have attached.

Works great in cornbread- you can add cheese, creamed corn, japalenos, etc, too.

Use a teaspoon of soda, with every cup of regular milk

To make pretend buttermilk, add 1-3/4 tablespoons of cream of tartar to a cup of milk, or add a tablespoon of lemon juice or white vinegar to a cup of milk and let it stand for 5 to 10 minutes. In many baking recipes, you can also just use plain yogurt or sour cream instead of buttermilk.
