Answers:
"The noodles themselves are pretty harmless," said Ron Konzak, author of The Book of Ramen. (Yes, someone actually wrote a book about ramen. There are web sites devoted to the topic, too.) "Usually it's the MSG in the flavor packets that can harm people on low sodium [diets] or [who are] allergic to the stuff."

MSG, or monosodium glutamate, is a "flavor enhancer" used to improve the taste of sweet, salty, bitter, or sour foods. Supposedly, it has a pleasant flavor of its own. Instant noodle makers use it to make their shrimp flavors "shrimpier" and beef flavors "beefier."

According to Stephanie Brooks, a San Francisco Bay Area dietitian, MSG triggers an allergic reaction in 1 to 2% of the population. "People allergic to MSG can get burning sensations, chest and facial flushing, or pain and headaches from it," Brooks said.

Even those who don't suffer from those symptoms should be careful not to overdo it when it comes to the noodles, or at least the flavor packs, which Brooks says are also high in sodium. A sampling of the three main brands of instant noodles revealed sodium amounts of 687 to 830 milligrams per serving. (That's 28 to 34% of the recommended daily value for a person consuming a 2,000-calorie-a-day diet.) On top of that, each serving contains between 7 and 11 grams of total fat (11 to 17% of the recommended daily value).

I sure hope not. I love that stuff.

they are bad for you because of the high sodium content

Their good. High in sodium which can lead to high blood pressure

I hope they aren't. I love any and all types of noodles!!!

They're not bad, but they're not exactly healthy either, as they are very heavily processed, and contain no nutrients.

Once in a while, they're ok, no more than that though.

full of sodium and they will make u fat'_', its too bad, huh?i love the stuff.

I think it's bullshitt, I eat Instant Shrimp Spicy Hot all the time, like three of those everyday, I eat Banana Pudding everyday too, and Shrimp, and Fish, and Eat Strawberry Ice Cream Cake everyday too, I'm not Sick and I don't feel sick, Who told you that?

they aren't bad for your health, it's just that they don't contain a lot of nutrients etc that things like fruit, veg etc would provide

There is alot of sodium in them and very little nutritional value. Man I love Top Ramen!

THERE'S a reason they've been the came price for the last 20 years.
Ramen is totally gross. Like glue in the bod, full of carbs, little nutritional value. High salt content, MSG too, no fiber.

yes its bad!
high in monosodiumglatamate too

they are bad for your health because they do not contain the essential nutrients that our bodies need, they are similar to junk food

they wont hurt you i eat ramen noodles all time and im very healthy

Oh my goodness! Read the calories there! And then look at the serving size! Are you freakin' kidding me?! It's somewhere like 400 calories, and 40% of your DV of saturated fat, and 70% of your sodium for the day, and there is almost no redeeming value in this meal - except that it's somewhere like $.20 a meal for high calories - a favorite among college students! It's somewhere close to like 40% fat. Leave it alone! Seriously! Or at least eat something yummier for that amount of bad that you're going to do to your body! Krispy Kreme, Burger King, a drink from Starbucks....etc.....

If you read the ingredient list on the package you will find partially hydrogenated oil aka trans fats. If you haven't heard about this stuff yet then google it.
If you buy spaghettini or angel hair pasta it cooks in a few minutes. Drizzle it with olive oil and lemon pepper. Tastes great.

The only thing would be that it is high in carbs and sodium. Too much carbs can cause weight gain so eating it once in awhile is o.k. I probably eat it like twice a week. Now for sodium, too much sodium is not good for those who suffer from high blood pressure and even though you don't have high blood pressure too much sodium is still not good for your health. Take care.

Well, noodles are not actually harming you too much, but they're not doing you any GOOD, either. They are almost always 50% fat, because they're nothing but flour stuck together with oil, plus some flavouring.

Some fat is ok, but my argument is that white flour and oil don't fill you up for long. For the same amount of fat in one packet of noodles, you could eat a nice big piece of meat, a side salad or some veggies, and some pasta made without oil (the dried kind that takes 10 min to cook) and sauce. That contains lots of fat and calories, but you're not going to get hungry again an hour after eating it, are you? So it's worth it. Also, you'd be getting vitamins, fibre, protien, and tons of other stuff from the full meaty dinner. You get almost nothing good from instant noodles.

I disagree that MSG is necessarily any worse for you than salt. And most people aren't on strict low-salt diets, so I don't think it's a big issue. According to Lonely Planet's travel guide to Laos (an old edition that I don't have anymore... 1989 or 1990s), studies actually showed MSG didn't cause many allergies at all, and that the claims of supposed harmful effects could be related to bad press a very long time ago. Keep in mind that it is an old book and there could be new studies showing the opposite!

It could be b/c the boullion powder that comes w/ it is VERY hig in sodium.

Or, if you're using stuff like ramen noodles, those are FRIED in OIL before drying. So they have tons of hidden fat.

Yes,due to the preservatives. ?
