Why can't english people cook a good pasta?!

Question:

Why can't english people cook a good pasta?

I went in UK many times but pasta is always too much, liquid or overcooked.
How can they season it with ketchup? It is awful!!

Pasta is so easy to cook!

Pasta with pesto

Leaves from 3 bunch fresh basil
2 tablespoons pine nuts, untoasted
1 garlic clove
1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil
1/2 cup freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Spaghetti, trofie, trenette or fusilli

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil for the pasta. Combine the basil, pine nuts, garlic, and olive oil in a blender and blend to a puree. Add the cheese, salt and pepper, and blend again.
Cook the pasta in the boiling, salted water until al dente, about 12 minutes. (You can see the time on the pack of pasta )Drain and transfer to a large bowl. Add the pesto and toss. Taste for salt and pepper, and add a drizzle of oil, if you like.

DON'T FORGET TO PUT SALT IN WATER BEFORE IT BOILS

if you want you can add potatoes.
Cut them in little pieces so that they are ready with pasta. Put them in boiling water with pasta and drain them togheter.

This is a easy typical recipe of the place where I live( Liguria ) .

well im english and my mother is a chef and i have chef training i came at top of my class for cooking pasta and sauces and the guy who judged me was italian. I think its just in restaurants they tend to get sloppy once theyre comfortable and tend to forget about things which is easily done. Also i think the main reason is English peope do not like their food "aldente" be it pasta or vegetables they like things thoroughly cooked through so they assume everybody else likes it that way. Also i have never seen or heard of anyone seasoning pasta with ketchup they dont even have ketchup in decent restaurants your obviously going to cafes or lower class restaurants.....

coz they r not italians....lolz

Maybe you should stop going to bad restaurants.
Beyond that, perhaps they like it with ketchup.
Who cares?

It's not a food the English are known for cooking/eating. Boiling, however, is a tried and true English culinary food prep stand-by. So they probably just get carried away.

To be sure I don't overdo it, I set a timer based upon what the package tells me is the best length of time for boiling. It's easy to forget about it on the stove, boiling away!

Next time give them a good recipe and see if they can do it, maybe that is all the problem is, they just don't have good recipes.

i am from new Zealand but i live in england. i have never seen ketchup used to season it but you are right they cant cook pasta but it is easy to coock but not reli easy to cook perfectly.

Ketchup on pasta! THAT AIN'T RIGHT!

please dont put all English people in the same category,my husband is a brilliant cook,he can make pasta sauce with all fresh ingredients better than anyone i know, and its popular with all my children and their friends.

because english people have no concept of good food. They can't cook. Just look at the stuff they call "food"!
