Can you make evaporated milk from powdered milk?
I have a recipe that asks for evaporated milk, but I've got some powdered milk on the shelf. Can you make evaporated milk by using less water, or is it not that simple?
Answers:
I don't think it's that simple, give it a go and let us know wont you.
It's not that simple. Just use ordinary milk - the same amount of ml.
No sorry you can't..
no but you can make caramel from evapourated milk! true!
No. It's not the same.
Hey!!! you are the boss.. If you are cooking, experiment, use it if you want and see what the outcome is. Evaporated milk has the fat in it and powdered milk doesn't, so it will not act the same in recipes, but, you can add fat to replace it (butter, oil) or corn starch if it is being used to make something thicker... A good cook learns a lot by trying new things, making a lot of crap sometimes, but LEARNING what works and maybe finding new dishes from mistakes that are out of this world.. Don't ask, do it....
You cannot make a very tasty substitute. But in a pinch you can use twice the amount of milk powder called for 1 cup to 1 cup water. I would not do this if it is in any recipe you think the milk could be tasted in however. Okay for cake and things like that.
I believe you can but it wont taste as good probly,If I aint got evap milk i use beer, dont go by me though
perhaps if we knew what you was cooking..we could give ya a good su.sometimes i fry shrimp using evap milk when I aint got any I use beer. what are you trying to cook?
