just try adding some canned tomatoes, to any macaroni and cheese recipe!
NANA'S TOMATO & CHEESE MACARONI

1 quarts tomatoes
1 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. dry mustard
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper

Cook and drain macaroni according to package directions. Spoon 1/3 of can of tomatoes into a well greased 1 1/2 quart casserole dish. Mix the remaining tomatoes with spices. Stir in the macaroni, combine well, and pour into an oven-proof casserole dish. Top with grated cheese.
Bake at 350 for 30 minutes.

***OPTIONAL*** stir in 1/2 c cheese with tomatoes & spices for extra cheesy mac.

Don't know that one. My favorite recipe, and a very easy one, is from Barbara Kafka's Microwave Gourmet cookbook, an excellent source.
Homemade macaroni and cheese is far superior to storebought.

No. Why do people these days think they have to mess around with perfectly good food?
Cook the macaroni in plenty of salted water until it's just 'al dente' (not squishy). Drain and place in an oven-proof casserole dish.
Make a white sauce and, if available add grated Cheddar cheese. Living in Switzerland I mix Gruyère or Gorgonzola with Parmesan.
Stir the cheese sauce into the drained macaroni. You can top with slices of tomato if you must and sprinkle grated cheese on top. Grill until the cheese starts to brown.

tinned? lol
