Making Pickles???

To save money, I'm reusing the pickle juice from some Clausen pickles and a fresh cucumber (sliced thin) to make my own pickles. My mother-in-law said they should only have to soak for 24 hours, but they still taste kind of cucumbery after 48 hours.

If I'm doing this right, how long do they need to soak? If I'm not, what can I do to make them pick up the flavor better?


Answers:
I'd let 'em sit in the fridge for about 3-5 days to make sure they've soaked up enough.

I know when I make my own pickles, they don't turn for at least 5 days.

There really isn't any right or wrong to this. Simply soak them, taste them and when YOU think they are right, they are!
Also, add a garlic clove or onion for some extra flavor it you like.

Refrigerator Pickles

6 cups 25 min 20 min prep

6 cups sliced cucumbers
1 cup sliced onions
1 green pepper, chopped
1 cup vinegar
2 cups sugar
1 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon celery seeds


Heat vinegar, sugar, salt, and celery seed.
Pour over cucumbers, onions and green pepper.
Store in refrigerator.
These will keep for many months

It will just take time for them to absorb the juice but they will never taste completely like a claussen. There will always be a slight cucumber flavor.

Soak them overnight in salty water and rinse thoroughly. Bottle the following day and leave for 48 hours or longer.
