Is it possible to fry bacon without it curling up on you?!

Question:

Is it possible to fry bacon without it curling up on you?

Someone had told me once that it was, but I can't remember what they said to do. Also, I've already tried using one of those bacon presses that you can buy in cooking stores, but the second i took the thing off to flip the bacon, it curled right up. Any other proven methods of keeping it straight?

Answers:
Buy a better brand of bacon, avoid the store-brand types and use a lower heat/flame while cooking. I choose Oscar Meyer bacon whenever I can and use a medium heat in either the pan while frying, or the oven when I bake it. Good luck.

dont flip it till the underside is done. I have worked in a resturant for 25+ yrs. it curles when you turn it to soon. and dont have the heat up to high.

yrs ago my grandfather had this heavy metal "thingy" that he would put on top of the bacon(made especially for that) to keep it straight. You could probably use a plate or small pan to get the same results, but check out some gourmet cooking sites/stores for that item

My husband is the bacon chef in our family. I simply don't have the patience to do what he does. He stands over it and constantly flips and presses. My sisterNlaw cooks hers in the microwave and they always come out flat between paper towels.

I cook mine slowly, and it hardly curls at all. Other than that, you could put it on a rack and bake it, or microwave it. I have used those techniques as well.

One thing, are you using thick or thin bacon? Thin tends to curl more than thick.

Use an old electric Flat Clothes Iron on the top!
This works fairly well. Keep an eye on the cord so as not to melt/burn it! !
Note! do not use a a steam iron as water left in the iron could leak out into the Hot Grease and cause a Steam/Grease Explosion resulting in possible burns. Use a Hot Mitt also!

no but you can buy the more expensive pre-cooked bacon, which is flat.

Place the bacon rashers in between two oven trays, and bake it till cooked. It will stay flat - guaranteed.

if you grill the bacon with another baking tray inside it. the bacon will keep flat as it presses onto the bacon

You can put your sliced bacon on a broiler pan (with drip tray) in the oven at 400 degrees and cook until the bacon is crispy. I like to cook my bacon in the microwave on a bacon tray (it has grooves so the fat drips away from the bacon). I cover the tray with paper towels and cook for about five minutes and the bacon comes out crispy and flat.

Lay your bacon in the skillet in straight lines....Put something
heavy on top, such as a pot or another skillet, OR a "bacon"
iron meant for this very purpose and sold in old fashioned
hardware or farm stores. Watch it tho so it doesn't burn.

put the bacon in a long baking pan ,lay slices side by side put into 350* oven for about 20 mins. Turns out great .no curling

To avoid curly bacon:

Put cold bacon in a unheated pan.
Cook undisturbed until it is cooked through.
(Don't have the temperature so high tht it will burn.)
Flip bacon briefly to brown.

The bacon "sticks" (not in a bad way) to the cold pan as it heats, helping keep the pieces flat. Using a lower heat avoids overheating the protiens which contributes to the curl.

Try putting it in the microwave to cook it. it comes out crisp and not curl
