How do you get bacon crisp without burning the heck out of it?

If frying it, make sure you start with a cold pan, use low-medium to medium heat, and turn constanty once it gets going. If using your oven, which I prefer, set the temp to 325-350 degrees, and keep an eye on it, making sure you turn it at least once. I've been making bacon this way for years, and I like crispy bacon but not too crisp where cutting into it makes it explode into a thousand pieces. Good luck.
Turn down the heat after you add the bacon to the high heated oil.
turn the heat down some more. takes a little longer but works.
Cook it in the oven without any added oil and put a second tray on top of it to make nice, straight and crispy bacon.

Bacon is one of the (very) few foods where you should NOT preheat the pan prior to frying.
Start with a cold pan (or skillet, or whatever), and lay the bacon in it, so that the bacon slices overlap as little as possible. Turn the heat on medium---no higher---and let the pan heat along with the bacon The MOMENT you see bubbles along the edges of the bacon, turn it over. Use tongs, and again, try to arrange the bacon so it doesn't overlap.
At this point, just keep an eye on it. As soon as a slice begins to curl on one side, turn them all over. Repeat this process until the bacon is a little LESS crisp than you want it (it will continue to cook briefly after it's removed from the heat). The exact time involved is going to vary, depending on your stove, the thickness of the bacon, the type of pan, etc. Drain the bacon on old newspaper (my way of recycling), or on paper towel.
And for heaven's sake, don't cook bacon in the microwave. Heating it up that way is OK, but don't try fully cooking it that way. You might just as well have taffy for breakfast.
I use the microwave. WAY less mess. 4slices on double thickness paper towels (under and over) takes 3 mins. Your house won't smell like a diner for 2 days either=)
I do it in the oven...
Lay out your bacon on a broiler pan so that the fat drips down...
Throw it in the oven on 400 for about 20 to 25 minutes. Check it after 15 minutes.
It'll turn out great.
Spray a pan with generic "pam" ~lay the bacon out in single strips & bake in the oven---about 350 degrees--until done as you like it.
Watch carefully . . .
You can broil for a minute or two at the end to brown.
If frying, never, ever use a stainless steel pan: that stuff will burn water!
Cast Iron skillets are still the best...

Start by cooking it in the frying pan until it is pretty well done then you can either place it on a pan and bake it at 400 until it reaches your desired crispyness, OR you can place it on a plate covered with paper towels uncovered and microwave it on high for a few minutes, just check it every minute until you get it to the desired crispyness.
You can cook it in the oven. Preheat to 425 degrees. Line pan with foil, then place bacon on foil lined pan. Bake for 15-20 minutes. The great part is you don't have curled bacon or grease splattering everywhere
