Congratulations!
October would be a perfect time to have a destination wedding in Italy. It's grape harvest time and the grapes are full on the vine with the leaves all bright crimson and maroon. It's also great weather -- warm and sunny generally but not hot as stifling like the summer here.
And talk about old, beautiful buildings. Cities like Florence are gorgeous to be married in -- with nuptials taking place in ancient city buildings, castles and villas. Tuscany is a classic destination. If you are intested in doing it, let me know and I can recommend a lot of different places.
There is a lot of paperwork need to have a wedding in Italy, but it is all quite easily done. Remember, you'll need an interpreter for your meetings in the offices as well as for the ceremony. Here's a short list of what you'll need to do:
--Atto notorio: done at an Italian consulate in U.S. prior to your departure (with two witnesses) or at a courthouse in Italy
--Nulla aosta: done at U.S. consulate in district where you are marrying, this document needs to get a apostille attached at an Italian lower court
--You will need your birth certificates, passports and divorce decrees (if applicable) for an appointment at the wedding office in the city where you will married.
--After the wedding, you'll need an apostille attached to the marriage certificate and have it translated in order to register your marriage in the U.S. when you return.
If you do go this route, I can help you. I planned my own wedding here and have helped many others plan their weddings and honeymoons in Italy.

Married in Italy, resident of Italy. Planned many weddings in Italy.
That sounds wonderful! Send me an invitation ;-)
France and Italy are nice Nova scotia is also pretty
Do something in Europe, it is so nice over there, Ireland sounds very romanitc, Italy sounds overrated.
Ireland sounds fantastic!
Also the coast of Oregon.
I would recomend Vermont in summer. Williams, Vermont. Or the American Hotel in Ohio. Beautiful!
If u r in the U.S., how about the Biltmore estate? It's only an hour away from Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, TN. I got married in Gatliburg then vacationed in the Smoky mountains. It was wonderful. :)

i would get married in the fall by a little brook or creek..maybe on a hill? lots of leaves and greenery
Coastal Maine is beautiful in October. Mt.Desert Island (Acadia national Park) is covered with places that do plenty of weddings for the super wealthy and regular folks too.
Niagara Falls
It also depends on what time of the year you guys are getting married. Some parts of Italy are not overrated. check this out
