Any tips for making Turkey Burgers?!

Question:

Any tips for making Turkey Burgers?

I'm very new to the ground turkey game. I want to make a patty melt. About how long would an average sized burger cook for? Do I sear the meat? (cooking it in a frying pan, its raining here). Any other suggestions?

Answers:
You can cook turkey burgers in a non-stick pan just fine. However, you may want to use a bit of canola oil or olive oil if you are using 93/7 turkey since it has a very low fat content. As for seasoning, feel free to flavor it as you would ground beef. I would personally recommend black pepper, salt, garlic powder, and onion powder with a splash or two of soy sauce.

As for heat and timing, cook them on a medium-high setting for at least 5 minutes a side. You may need to add a few more minutes per side if you are planning on making thicker patties. Good luck!

Broil them or do them on the grill (thats how i like them)
Turkey burgers are funny because if you undercook them they are raw and overcooking dries them out like rocks.
I would say 4 to 5 minutes on each side in a hot pan then check for doneness.

fry it and an average burger would be abot 7min

I use ground turkey in alot of my recipes, but were you also aware that most ground turkey is NOT leaner than lean ground beef? That being said, season your burgers in a way that will enhance your turkey flavor. Make your patties fairly thin and cook on both sides until the juices run clear. Although you can sear the meat, you don't need to for turkey burgers. And, you want to make sure that they are cooked well done, unlike beef. On medium heat, cook for approximately 5 minutes per side. Check and see if liquid is clear. Cover briefly and serve.

My tip,
Don't make them at all!! They suck!!

I would make them the same way as I would make up an ordinary meat patty.
Cook them for 3-4 minutes over medium heat per side.
You don't want to sear them as that will only burn the outside and leave the inside raw.
Personally I would grill them in the oven, 8'' from the top element.

Timing depends on how thick you make them. I'm thinking of under 1"

Yeah Wait Till Thanks Giving...

keep in mind turkey is poultry so it needs to be cooked through (not hammered) as far as time it all depends on the size and the heat. Also keep in mind turkey is lean so there is not fat, therefore not much flavor, so season it well and add some herbs and onins in to the meat if you like to give it some more flavor, as far as cooking it, grill is probably best, but frying is ok, i am partial to olive oil because, again, not fat, no flavor, so the more flaovr you can cook ground turkey with and in the better. A gril pan would be ideal for indoor if that is a option for you.

I usually make turkey burgers in the George Foreman grill....that way it's compressed and cooks more evenly...the time will depend on how done you like it, but you can press it to see that the juices run clear and that's usually a good indicator...also, I mix my meat with Spike seasoning....it tastes GREAT!
