What's the difference between "dry" yeast, and just yeast?!

Question:

What's the difference between "dry" yeast, and just yeast?

I'm wanting to make some dinner rolls and there are two different recipes......dry yeast and just yeast. Help?

Answers:
There is dry yeast and cake yeast. Dry yeast is most probably what your recipe calls for. Cake yeast is moist and active and you don't have to soak it in water before using. Most people who use cake yeast are baking artisan type breads. If your recipe says to soak the yeast in warm water, then it's calling for dry yeast.

dry yeast doesn't have to be activated by sitting in warm water and sugar
