Question:

What is the difference between a candy themometer and a regular thermometer?

If im makin fudge...can i use a regular thermometer even if it says candy thermometer?

and is it hard to make fudge if so do u have any tips??

Answers:
well, you might not want to because candy thermometers are especially made for high heat.

I wouldn't use the candy thermometer rectally....

No. A regular thermometer doesn't go up high enough and also a candy thermometer registers the temperature in liquids better, so don't use anything like a meat thermometer either. It won't be accurate.

a candy thermometer is for making fudge or any kind of cooking that requires a thermometer. A regular thermometer is one that YOU take YOUR temp with and will not be used for cooking as it will break if put into heat, thus releasing mercury into the food and poisoning you. Fudge is easy to make.
Cook till SOFT BALL stage which is 238 degrees

you should use a candy thermometer because it goes up to 300, 400 degrees. when you make fudge make sure you dont stop stirring it untill it says too otherwise it will mess up the mixture.

Whatever happened to the concept, do what your told? I'm sure it will be fine whatever you do, but the risk of messing up directions, is using untried substitutes. Do what it tells you for maximum results!
