Answers:
OVEN BEEF STEW

2 pounds beef stew cubes
1 (32 ounce) can tomato juice or V-8 cocktail
3 cloves garlic, crushed
1 onion, sliced
1 stalk celery, sliced
1/4 teaspoon oregano
1 beef bouillon cube (optional)
3 or 4 carrots, sliced
4 or 5 potatoes, cubed
1 tablespoon flour
1 tablespoon sugar (optional)
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Preheat oven to 250° F.
In a casserole dish, blend salt and pepper, sugar (optional), oregano, flour and one crushed beef bouillon cube (optional).

Stir in tomato juice, mixing well to combine. Add remaining ingredients.

Cover and bake about four hours.

If using a slow cooker, which also works well for this dish, set your timer for six to eight hours on the medium setting

add 1 onion chopped, 2 cans tomato soup, 7 ribs of celery choped, 7 carrots cleaned and chopped, cook 1 hr. then add about 1 lbs potatoes peeled and chopped and cook another 25 mins. Mix 1 T flour to 1/4 c water togther and add it to thicken it up a bit. Cook 5 mins. more

You got yourself a basic stew.

10. bouquet garni which is(bayleaf, parsley and thyme tied together one of each)
method
Toss the beef in the seasoned flour until evenly coated, shaking off any excess.Heat the oil in a large saucepan over high heat. Cook the beef in three batches for about 3 minutes, or until well browned all over, adding a little extra oil as needed. Remove from the pan.

Add the bacon to the pan and cook for 2 minutes,or until browned.Remove with a slotted spoon and add to the beef. Add the spring onions and mushrooms and cook for five minutes, or until the onions are browned.Remove.

Slowly pour the red wine into the pan, scraping up any sediment from the bottom with a wooden spoon. Stir in the tomato paste and stock. Add the bouquet garni and return the beef, bacon and any juices to the pan. Bring to the boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 45min then return the spring onions and mushrooms to the pan.Cook for 1hour,or until the meat is very tender and the sauce is glossy.serve with steamed new potatoes or mash.

serves 4

note:Although this stew takes a long time to cook,it is very quick to prepare and the result is delicious.

So far the other answers are pretty on point but some things to consider would be:

one) Most stews are just a hodgepodge of vegetables. Really just stuck to the realm of what you like. I tend to stick to what I call a "southern stew" only because I was raised in the south and it has traditional veggies used in southern dishes like carrots, potatoes, and onions.

two) Cooking time would really depend on the method used to cook your stew. If you had a crockpot or aka a slow cooker ( if you still don't know what Im talking about go to the link at the bottom, it should help) it could take as long as four or five hours. If you don't have one then simply put it in the oven pretty much according to the recipe listed and you are good.

1 can tomato 15.oz ,1 onion , 2 potatoes, 2 med carrots , 1 package of onion soup mix. put in roasting pan cover with foil. cook in a oven at 350 , for 3hr. put stake in pan then put soup mix on stake then put tomatoes over all put in veg's cover cook

What my family likes (I have to make it anytime my husband and I visit my parents and brother)

Cube your beef and put in a plastic bag with about a cup of flour. Coat beef well. Put in a pot (not pan you will cook the stew in this pot) with 2 tbl of olive oil or butter (a tasty fat), minced onion and garlic (I use a lot of garlic about 3-4 cloves) sear the beef well, (don't cook it). Turn heat down add sliced carrots, potatoes, celery, onions, a bay leaf and steak seasoning. Cover with water or beef broth (the broth adds alot of flavor that you just can't get otherwise). Bring to a boil, drop heat and simmer for 2-4 hours. The longer you simmer the stew, the thicker the liquid and the more tender the beef. I made this recipie over years of making it. The more you make it the better it will get because you will find what you want the most of...

Good N Easy Stew:

? day 5 min prep
8 servings

3 lbs stewing beef, cut into 1 1/2 in. cubes
1 (1 1/2 ounce) envelope dry onion soup mix
1/2 cup beef broth
1 (10 1/2 ounce) can reduced-fat cream of mushroom soup
1 (4 ounce) can mushrooms

1. Combine all ingredients into crockpot. Cover and cook on low for 8 to 12 hours. If desired, thicken gravy.

What you should do is use BEEF and PORK, cubed and dusted with plenty of Paprika Powder, use fresh Garlic as well
as Onions (Ratio is: same amount of Onion as Meat).
Oil in Pot, brown the Meat and add some Stock, simmer in covered Pot on low Heat for at least 45 Minutes. Then check the Liquid and replenish if neccessary !! Serve with white Rice. If you have Leftovers reheat the next Day on low Heat (it probably tastes better the next Day)

Make sure your meat is in bite size pieces . put them in flour and salt and pepper. Then brown them in a frying pan. after put them in the pot you are using add water to cover . simmer it . in at least one hour add the vegges you want i use potatoes , peas, carrots, onions, celery, corn. you can add or omit any. you can add mroe water if it is getting to dry let that cook on med to thick'n it you will need some flour sift it over it let it cook to add a little beef boullion mixed with hot water. adding more sifted flour if need be to thick'n if i get little clumps i just squish them on the side of the pot . let it cook for as long as you can when the potatoes are cooked its done.
