Would part boil the potatoes and then put them in to cook at the same time as the chicken and they can take about 40 mins to an hour and when they are done you can take them out first...Better than waiting for pots when the chickenis done..

I think I can actually answer you........
Pot roast takes about 20 mins per pound.
Also remember, the slower you cook a pot roast the better it is. I cook a roast on a low setting like 300 (slow roast).
chicken breasts are faster, like an hour, depending on how many there are.
Do the potatoes first if you are using chicken breast rather than cooking a whole chicken. Par boil the potatoes for 10 minutes first, then put them in a baking tray with salt, olive oil, butter and toss them around, then bake them for 30-40 minutes until they are golden brown. Cook the chicken by wrapping it with parma ham (you could stuff it with mozzarella cheese) and sear the chicken in a frying pan till it becomes golden then put it the oven for 10 minutes.
Here's a recipe for you:

If you are in the UK (which I am going to assume since you are talking about a Sunday Roast Dinner), here's a nice recipe to try:

Here's a recipe for basic roasted chicken breasts:
(If you are in the UK adjust the oven temp to 240 Celsius or Gas Mark 9)
OVEN ROASTED CHICKEN BREASTS
Olive oil or vegetable oil spray
3 small cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon fresh thyme or rosemary, minced
Salt and pepper to taste
3 9-ounce bone-in chicken breasts
Heat oven to 475 degrees. Spray a baking sheet with oil spray. Mix garlic, thyme, salt and pepper. Pull skins slightly away from breast meat. Stuff 1/3 of the seasoning mix under the skin of each breast. Put breasts on baking sheet and roast 20 minutes or until juices run clear.

In any case you're going to need over an hour for potatoes (start to finish about 90 minutes), so yes do your potatoes first then your chicken.
Good luck and Enjoy!
I would start by marinating the chicken first (allow at least 1 hour for it to absorb the flavor of the marinade). Once the chicken has marinated for 45 minutes, start roasting the potatoes (they will take 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the size of the potato pieces). 20 minutes before the potatoes are done, heat your grill/broiler/skillet for the chicken. Allow 12-18 minutes or the chicken to cook thru & 3-5 minutes for the juices to settle once it is cooked. Good luck!
The first thing to do is defrost the chicken breasts.
Now peel the potatoes and put them in cold, salted water, bring them to the boil, drain and place in a roasting pan with some oil (just a little) in a fairly hot oven. You have to turn them over, but now you can put the chicken breasts in the frying pan - they take about 15 minutes. Is that all? Most beg takes about 10 minutes - cut carrots into thin slices. Or wash the salad and make a salad sauce. That should keep you occupied til the tatties are nice and brown. Don't forget to turn the chicken breasts. Thinking of a sauce (also known as gravy)?. Remove the chicken breasts from the pan and let them 'rest'. Add cornflour to the fat in the frying pan, season - (add salt and pepper) and stir, you can now add some of the water which was used to cook the potato or any other vegetables. Keep stirring until you get the correct consistency. If you like dark gravy. reduce the salt and add a splash of soy sauce.
