Which direction should the handle be pointing when you are cooking on a stove?

I don't think it really matter unless you have kids in the house.
If there are kids always make sure the handle is where they can't grab it or accidentally knock it off the stove and get burned.
towards you so that you dont have to put your hands above the heat constantly.
It you have kids, it should be pointing back away from the edge. If not, just point it wherever is comfortable for you.
it can point in any direction that will allow u to safely stir things. also avoid it being over another burner, as the handle ring is metal and can heat up
the handle of a pot or pan should be pointing in to the center of the stove, or tucked between burners when cooking. that way, you don't knock the pan off the stove, and if there are children in the house, they don't pull the pots down on themselves.
it should be over the counter......if their is one.....if not...... do not point so it is over the stove or sticking staright out from it........ left or right
If its only you and your spouse or significant other in the house, they can be pointed out...(This saves on the handles getting hot, if you are using an overly large pot or pan and the handle extends over the gas burner of the opposite side).
Now, if you have "little ones" in the house, ALWAYS point the handles towards the middle!! Too many times little children will grab the handles and pull them "down" on themselves and burn themselves with the hot content of the pot or pan.
Even if your using those new "convection burners" that heat up the surface or an electric stove, PLEASE put the handles towards the middle so that some poor youngster will not go through life scalded and burned or disfigured for life!
I wish you well...

The handle should be placed so the chef has easy access to it. It should not be placed over another burner for obvious reasons. Toward you is best but be cautious it it hangs out over the front of the range. Here people could walk into it, children can pull it down, etc. Just be careful. It's best not to leave the stove while cooking anyway.
Towards you so that your young children can help you get the pot off the stove when things are done...
whichever is most convient & comfortable when you're cooking, never mind those so called 'experts' tells you their bunch of craps
I took a cooking class and the first week we did kitchen safety. My teacher told us to put it so that it is not hanging off the side (so it is pointing in) because if it is out and it is hit the pot could fall over and burn you.
I usually point mine toward the middle, or to the side if I'm not using that other burner. We have a small kitchen, and I've had many near misses of knocking the pan off the stove or having my clothes catch the handle. So any direction but sticking out.
Toward the center of the stove . . . esp. w/ kids around.
Anyway EXCEPT towards the cook. This alleviates the possibility of inadvertantly having hands/clothes getting caught on the handle and spillage of hot food.
