What summer treats are quick and easy for kids to make?
Answers:
My favorite summer treat is orange juice ice cubes! Just fill an ice cube tray with OJ and cover it with platic wrap or fiol and stick toothpicks through so that the picks stand up. Simple, cheap, and super refreshing!! You can also put the oj cubes in juices to give them an extra zing as they melt! :)
kool-aid popsicles. You take bathroom size cups, and popsicle sticks, pour in the kool-aid, and stick in the popsicle sticks when it starts to freeze up a bit. Then, after an hour or two, they will harden.
rice krispy's marshmallow treats
cokkies and milk, ice cream, popsiciles, freeze pops, nachos, milkshakes
corn on the cob
grilled hot dogs
decorating grilled burgers with any toppings they want
Ice cream sandwiches
a gallon of vanilla ice cream (will have some left over)
a dozone sugar cookies, or chocolate chips cookies
gummy bears, resses peanut butter cup, m&ms, anything the kids like to put in the sandwich.
makes 6 sandwiches
take a scoope of ice cream and put it in a bolw, put any mix-ins in the bowl, mix real fast till its soft but not too melty, and drop it between two SOFT cookies. enjoy!
its fun for kids, cuz they can put in whatever they want in it.
better to eat outside, like after a swim, cuz it could get messy!:)
Easiest of all, go to the bakery and pick up some gourmet cookies ( make your own ) take your favorite ice cream and make ice cream sammys my kids always loved doing that
jello cups - get small butter tubs or other small cups/containers about 1/2 cup to 1 cup in size, make gelatin per directions, put equal amount in each cup. once it is setup, put a dollop of coolwhip on top and enjoy. you can also make several cups of a variety of flavors and layer them.
pudding cups - do the same as above, except use instant pudding and without the wait for it to setup.
put a popsicle stick in a banana, then dip the banana in chocolate syrup, put on wax paper and put in freezer until solid.
ice cream sandwich - get chocolate covered graham cookies (or fudge stripe cookies), put a small scoop of ice cream on one, put a 2nd on for a top.
party mix - get popcorn, pretzels, cheese puffs, favorite dry cereals (honey nut O's, kix, chex, life, whatever), m&m's, raisins, licorice bites, skittles, jelly beans, gummy bears, peanuts, cheese crackers, dried cranberries, etc, give each child a small baggie/sack and let them mix their own.
juice-sicles - get some 100% juice, put in plastic cups w/a popsicle stick in the middle & freeze
ants on a log - celery, peanut butter & raisins (i also put a bit of chocolate syrup on mine.)
apples w/peanut butter on them (again i like to have a bit of chocolate syrup w/mine)
1 qt. ripe strawberries, rinsed
1/3 cup KOOL-AID Tropical Punch Flavor Sugar-Sweetened Soft Drink Mix
REMOVE tops from strawberries by pinching and twisting each top between two fingers. (Or, use a table knife to remove stems.) or using a table knife. Measure the soft drink mix using a dry measuring cup, leveling it with a straight-edged table knife.
PLACE strawberries and drink mix in blender; cover. Blend on low speed 2 min. or until smooth. Pour evenly into six 5-oz. paper or plastic cups. Freeze 1 hour.
INSERT wooden pop stick into center of each cup. Freeze an additional 3 hours or until pops are firm. Remove from freezer a few minutes before serving; let stand at room temperature to soften slightly. Peel off paper cups just before serving.
You will need a package of graham crackers, ice cream, and ziptop freezer bags.
Soften the ice cream for a few minutes and then take two cracker halves and spread one with ice cream. Top with the other cracker. Place two in each sandwich bag. Zip and freeze. Return to freezer for long enough to harden.
Then enjoy!
When I was a kid we would get those popcicle trays and put crushed pineapple, or orange juice in them then freeze them. Cheap easy and good for you treats for the kids. Trust me they will love them.
