How long does cabbage take to cook? and what about potatoes?
being boiled, thanks
Answers:
depending on how small u slice the cabbage about 10mins
and potatoes take about 20 - 40 mins depending on small u cut them
Boil them in the same pot for about an hour or until they lose thier colour
cabbage - when its not crunchy anymore, but not soggy either - down to personal preference 5 mins?
potatoes - new potatoes - put in boiling water - just cover - boil for 20 minutes
Ultimately, its down to testing them.
Cabbage about 5 mins, potatoes about 8 mins. Keep checking to see how soft they are
It take only 20 min. to cook
let them boil, check to make sure the water doesnt boil out. take a fork and measure there tenderness. thats why we boil them when they get to the tenderness you like then there done
Cabbage about 5 minutes
Potatoes depends on the size, entire potatoes with skin takes about 30 minutes. But you can always stick a fork and figure it out.
Small hashbrown style cuts take about 6/7 minutes.
Check the cabbage after five minutes by taking a little chunk with a fork and taste it. add a little salt to the water before you boil the cabbage for a little flavor.
By testing it you can tell if is done or need more time.
Potatoes will be done when a folk penetrate them without force it too much.
It won't be bad idea to taste them also just like you did with the cabbage remember to add salt to the water before boiling the potatoes.
good luck to you.
If you remove the thick stems down the middle of each cabbage leaf and then slice thinly the resultant greenery should be placed in boiling water, to which a little salt has been added. Boil for 4-5 mins. drain well, tossin butter and ad a little freshly grated black pepper (if liked) Scrumptious!
I presume the potatoes will be new, so add to boiling water and boil for 15-20 mins depending on size. Cut large ones in two before boiling. Drain toss in butter if liked and then in either chopped parsley or a little chopped mint and enjoy.
Boiled potatoes usually take about 20 minutes, that's if you cut them in half, as for cabbage, cut in half also, it takes about 40 minutes. You don't want to boil cabbage for too long unless you want cabbage mush (or cabbage soup). Same for potatoes, if you want them mashed after being cooked, leave it for about 25 minutes and if you want them to retain the shape, then 20 should do it.
Shred the cabbage taking off the outer leaves, then plunge into a saucepan of boiliing water, bring to the boil then simmer with a lid until they go soft. My mum adds a pinch of bicarb to keep the green colour. Drain and use the water for gravy.
Boiled potatoes, peel and cut to equivalent sizes so that they all cook the same. I haven't timed them but put on medium heat and they are ready when you can insert a blunt knife into them without them falling apart. If they do fall apart then use them as mash potatoes, so drain, mash and add butter and milk to your desired taste.
When I cook cabbage for St Pat's day, i quarter it and then put in boiling water until it starts to get a bit soft, about 15-20 mins. I serve it with butter and salt so it's not exactly healthy cabbage. For boiling potatoes, at least 20 minutes - test them by sticking in a fork - if it slides off easily, they're done.
