How do I teach myself to cook this summer?!

Question:

How do I teach myself to cook this summer?

I need to learn how to cook, 19 and basically if it can be made in the microwave, just add water, or the george foreman grill, its not getting cooked.

I mean, I can scrambe eggs,
No idea how to cook pasta, make pancakes, make rice or cook meats that can't be thrown on the GF Grill.

So what should I do to improve my culinary(spelling) skills this summer, and baby or simple things that I shoudl be able to cook.

Answers:
For pasta, pancakes and rice follow package directions.
Beef just marinade in one cup vinegar for a few hours and just cook until the inside is how you like it.. I still cut the meat to see where its at I never have timed it in my life.
There are various places online just follow receipes its sort of like doing a science project measure accurately and you got it made!

Follow the directions on the packaging. Also, go on line if not to a book store and get a beginner's book and recipes. Then it is a matter of trial and error from that point on.

ok i know this is gonna sound corny but go to the bookstore and pick up a kids cookbook and start practicin! it's a good way to learn the basics

watch the Food Network

Whole chicken, pepper, salt, a little garlic.

Roasting pan (covered).

350* 2 hours.

Get an armload of books from the library. Learn technique. Start small. Have fun.

I suggest get a beginner cookbook and a crockpot and start from there....here are some simple ABC recipes for the beginner:

BBQ cups
Buy one roll of biscuits.......Put the biscuits in muffin tins and knead them around........brown one lb ground beef with 1/2 cup bbq sauce, chopped onion.......spoon 2 Tablespoons in each cup....bake according to biscuit instructions

Spaghetti
Brown 2 lbs ground beef and one chopped onion.......place in crockpot with 2 large cans hunts spaghetti sauce.......let simmer in crockpot 6 hours on low

Beef meal
Brown 2 lbs ground beef in skillet.....add 2 cans golden mushroom soup..........slice 2 onions and 3 potatoes......pour one teaspoon of oil in bottom of crockpot......layer onion and potatoes and pour meat on top.....let simmer for 6 hours on low

Hope this starts you out.......good luck!

The best thing to do is buy a cook book with recipes that give you ingredients that are name brand, like Good Housekeeping or Sandra Lee's Semi-homemade. I taught myself, now I am a chef!

practice makes perfect. watch cooking shows and if you see a recipe you like look it up online, print it out and try cooking it. my fav show is semi homemade with sandra lee on the food network. her recipes are usually very easy and taste like they were homemade. my fav website to look for recipes is kraft.com. this website even has step by step instructions that you can view. good luck!

maaaaan cooking is the bomb....all you have to do is follow directions, its very simple you can go to the grocery store and find recipes on the back of boxes of food,go online and get a trillion different recipes or ask your mom to teach you a simple one to start out with. once you got one down perfect, then move on to another one.before you know it by the end of the summer you ll know how to cook 10 dishes.I'm a dude and Ive been cooking since i was 12 (12 years ago) years old so if a 12 year old boy can do it go figure.

There is a book called "Joy of Cooking" and it literally tells you how to boil water. Not that everything is simple, but the introduction to the book and to each section gives plenty of directions, tips, and advice on cooking. It has plenty of recipes for everything from making toast to hugely elaborate dinners...

If not that book, then for sure you can find something similar. You can't cook with a microwave, I don't care what is said about that. Heat things up, sure.

I am going to have to agree and say watch the food network, I was rubbish at cooking and I started watching paula's home cooking for a laugh, coz she does these really funny snorting noises when she cooks withs chocolate, anyways I started cooking her dishes and can now bust out a totally wicked meal, whenever the need arises.

The Bettty Crocker cookbooks titled New Cookbook / Every Thing You Need to Know to Cook has illustrations and step by step instructions as well as cooking tips at the beginning of each catagory. Of course there is some trial and error with cooking but all the recipes have been tested. Practice makes perfect and in time you will become an experienced cook.

Learning to cook only takes one thing, Taste. You know what you like, now decide, do I want it hot or cold, should it be cooked or can I eat it raw, if something looks like it isn't "cooked" enough, cook it some more. Two things taste good by themselves, can you combine the two? try it. If you can light the stove, boil water and concentrate on just what's in front of you, you can cook. It takes practice, that's where technique comes in. When first starting out always cook over a medium flame and the oven doesn't have to be any higher then 375.
