I make a version of this for Halloween using decorated Milano cookies as headstones in my "dirt graveyard". Just bake and frost your cake like usual. Buy some all chocolate sandwich cookies and place them in a large zip lock and crush them into "dirt" like pieces. I use a rolling pin for this... Press crushed cookies into the frosting and place gummy worms throughout, maybe going over the side of the pan etc.... Very fun.. You can also place a few plastic bugs on the cake and just remove before eating. I have also tinted coconut green to use as patches of grass!
This is one I found..............

Crush cookies in food processor and put half of crumbs in 9x13 pan or large clay flower pot lined with tin foil. Mix crean cheese and butter until smooth and add powdered sugar. fold in cool whip. In a separate large bowl mix pudding, milk, and vanilla then fold cream cheese mixture into pudding mix. I like to place gummie worms in mine toappear as if they are crawling over the side, and even bury a few for your surprised guests to find in the "dirt". Put a little spade for scooping out
Here are two recipes for Dirt cake that my kids love to make. I hope this is what you are looking for :)
DIRT CAKE 1
2 (20 oz.) pkgs. Oreo cookies
1/2 stick butter
1 (8 oz.) cream cheese
1 c. powdered sugar
3 1/2 c. milk
2 sm. French vanilla instant pudding boxes
1 (12 oz.) Cool Whip
Cream the butter, cream cheese and powdered sugar together. Mix pudding together with the milk, add the Cool Whip to pudding mixture. Then blend in with the cream cheese mixture.
Crumble the Oreo's in a blender, leave the cream in the Oreo's.
Line the inside of a clay flower pot with foil. Alternating cookie crumbs and filling, ending with the cookie crumbs on top. Top with gummi worms and a plastic flower.
DIRT CAKE 2
Crush:
1 large package Oreo cookies in blender.
Cream together:
1/2 stick butter
8 oz. cream cheese
1 c. powdered sugar
Mix::
3 1/2 c. milk
2 pkg. French vanilla instant pudding
12 oz. Cool Whip
Add to cream mixture and mix well.
Place Cool Whip lid in bottom of clean 8-inch flour pot. Layer cookie mixture and creamed mixture alternately, ending with cookie mixture on top. Chill overnight. Garnish with artificial flowers and serve with a garden trowel.
Or, layer in a sand bucket. Place shovel in the middle or towards the side. Have gummy worms "crawling" out of the dirt. Make sure you end with cookie mixture.
The person that I got this recipe from likes a "dirtier" cake, so they use only 1/2 the cream mixture amount. Experiment to suit your taste. You may also use gummy worms or spiders for accents.
Enjoy!
