Are mushrooms supposed to be peeled before cooking?!

Question:

Are mushrooms supposed to be peeled before cooking?

I have watched people removing the skin from American button mushrooms.

Answers:
dont peel mushrooms. just brush the top or lightly wipe with a damp cloth to clean.

No

no, you don't have to,those are really fancy meals and things like that...there isn't really a peel on mushrooms

Absolutely unnecessary, and actually kind of silly.

No. It spoils the look of the mushrooms.

Just washed to remove the dirt.

No you don't have to peel them. But you should wipe them off very lightly with a dry sponge.

no you do not peel mushrooms, but some mushrooms may have very tough stems, so you will have to figure out which ones and discard them (the stems).

it's your food, do whatever you want. peeling is a bit anal though.

You have? I've never seen such a thing. Mushrooms should be wiped clean with a paper towel. You can cut the ends off the bottom, but.... peel them? No.

no!!
easy as that!!

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo....
Never.

Eating uncooked mushrooms may not suit your taste.
Dip them in beaten egg/milk and then in flour or crumbs. Deep fry them in hot oil for a few minutes turning often.
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
THEY'LL COME BACK FOR MORE
