Canning foods?!

Question:

Canning foods?

Hi, I'm trying to find out how to preserve foods in a way that I can send them to my husband who is stationed in Afghanistan. I can't send fozen items because of the length of time a package takes to get there. (can't use dry ice either, it's against regulations) I was wondering if there was any light weight canning jars out there. Any info anyone has on the subject would be welcome. I just want to send him some of the foods he likes so he can have something from home besides cookies and other junk foods.

No light weight canning jars. Also, they're glass so breakage in transit is possible.

They make some really nice dehydrated foods that you can get from camping stores.
