What is the best way to cook asparagus?
Answers:
1 lb asparagus
1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt (or 1/4 teaspoon regular table salt)
preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
cut off the woody bottom part of the asparagus spears and discard.
with a vegetable peeler, peel off the skin on the bottom 2-3" of the spears (this keeps the asparagus from being all "stringy" and if you eat asparagus you know what I mean by that).
place asparagus on foil lined baking sheet and drizzle with olive oil.
sprinkle with salt.
with your hands roll the asparagus around until they are evenly coated with oil and salt.
roast for 10-15 minutes, depending on the thickness of your stalks and how tender you like them.
they should be tender when pierced with the tip of a knife.
the tips of the spears will get very brown but watch them to prevent burning.
they are great plain but sometimes I serve them with a light vinaigrette if we need something acidic to balance out our meal.
I steam asparagus, but my husband likes frying them in a bit of sesame oil. Both are good.
I use a steamer.
steamed and grilled. they are both good choices.
Try this, its great and easy:
Ingredients:
* 500 g fresh Asparagus
* 2 tsp Lemon juice
* 3 Egg yolks
* 175 g Butter, melted
* 2 lemons, cut into wedges
Method:
* To make Hollandaise, whiz egg yolks and lemon juice in a blender for 1 minute, then pour in the melted butter and whiz for another 1 minute until sauce has thickened.
* Bring some water to boil in a sauce pan and cook asparagus for 3 minutes and drain.
* Serve asparagus with Hollandaise on top and lemon wedges.
grilled! with a lil bit of evoo and garlic
either use some aluminum foil, or use one of those veggie pans for the grill- I'd invest in a veggie pan if you have a grill because all kinds of veggies taste de-lish on a grill, like zucc and squash!
I find that steaming asparagus in the microwave for 2mins
then drain the liquid and add a tbsp of butter to melt.
mmmm, delish
Steam for 5 minutes, add some salt, drops of vinegar, drops of hot sauce and oregano/basil/mint/all of these.
Steamed- you still keep all the nutrients your body needs- kind of like broccoli.
Asparagus Asiago:
2 lbs asparagus, woody stems removed
2 Tbsp olive oil
1/4 tsp. each italian seasoning, salt, and pepper
1 oz. piece of Asiago cheese
Heat oven to 400 degrees. Put asparagus on a rimmed baking sheet and drizzle with olive oil, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Toss to coat evenly, spread evenly on pan. Roast for 15 minutes or until tips are lightly browned and just fork tender. With a vegetable peeler, shave cheese onto asparagus. Toss gently.
I steam it usually
I assume you're talking about cooking method, and not asking for actual recipes.
There's no "best" way to prepare asparagus; it all depends on what you like, AND on what else you're eating. For example, if your main course is something delicately flavored, like poached fish, you should probably steam (or very briefly boil) your asparagus, so it also remains mildly flavored.
If you're GRILLING the fish, or preparing some other grilled main course, then the asparagus itself could be grilled alongside the entree. The bolder, more pronounced flavors of the grill will be present in both the main dish and the side dish.
On the grill...Put it in a Foil Bag...you can buy them I make my own out of foil cheaper..Pour some olive oil over them and some bar-b-que spice and a little Montreal steak seasoning over that...shake the bag lightly...close it and put it on the grill for 15mins...10 mins if you light it crunchy...also don't put directly on the fire...Enjoy
Saute them in butter and garlic that is sooo good
steam or boil or oven roast!
Grilling them carmelized the sugars and changes the taste.
Steaming them only heats and softens them.
