Brownies without vanilla extract?!

Question:

Brownies without vanilla extract?

my boyfriends birthday is tomoro... so i decided i was gonna make him a cake from scratch... (im 14 by the way) but we didnt have any brown sugar... so then i decide to make him brownies but we dont have any vanilla extract... is there something i can replace the vanilla with... and alternative to the extract?

Answers:
OK first don't panic-Vanilla is just a flavor and it will not really affect it enough to matter.
If you want you can use Almond Extract or Rum Extract, or any other flavor you want. I have even used real rum, whiskey or brandy instead of vanilla in cakes, but I suggest asking your parents before using alcohol even just a teaspoonful, LOL. If you don't have any of those then try adding some orange zest to the recipe. Thats the ground up outside of the orange peel. This part of the peel is rich in citrus oil which will convey the orange flavor nicely with a chocolate brownie. I hope your boyfriend appreciates your efforts!

Rum extract. Or just leave it out. It only affects the flavor. Some people might even like it better without.

not realy, other then the artifical (cant spell) extract. if u dont have either dont bother it will taste bad. but then i again he'll probaly say he likes them so u dont feel bad, i would, lol

A bit of any baking extract could be used, but the vanilla just rounds out the flavor and they should be fine brownies without it.

Almond Extract would be good.

you really wont taste the difference if you leave out vanilla extract
