What would be the healthiest flavors of oatmeal?!
What would be the healthiest flavors of oatmeal?
Answers:
plain, and then add your own sweetner, spices & fruit.
the preflavored ones are made with alot of sugar. What I do is make the plain and I add fruit either canned in water or lite syrup but i prefer fresy. strawberries and blueberries are my fav but whatever you like willwork.
Oatmeal is exceptionally healthy as it is, so in my opinion, whichever has the least sugar would be optimal
they make varieties now that are no sugar added, which reduces the calories a bit & keeps the sugar intake in check.
I'd go with whatever flav makes you the happiest, as you should just be proud of yourself for eatin' a healthy breakfast!
I love apple cinnamon, but you should find the flav that works 4 u...all oatmeal is FABULOUS!!!
Congrats on being a healthy-eater!
Have an exceptional Friday!!
=o)
What to you want? The flavors are subjective, with me liking one thing, you another. Oatmeal itself is most nutritious when it has the least processing and additives. Old fashioned rolled oats are far and away the best value.
regular, bland oatmeal.
plain oatmeal
The original flavor, I add ground allspice, nutmeg and Cinnamon, organic demerra cane sugar to Quaker one minute oats in the round container........
It doesnt matter because all oatmeals are healthy
I generally make steel-cut oatmeal using 1/2 water and 1/2 milk. When the oatmeal is finished cooking, I add a little raw sugar or honey, then a handful of dried fruits such as cherries, cranberries, raisins, etc.
Any reasonable flavor would be healthy. Even chocolate in moderate doses is good for you....
buy the steel cut oatmeal. It takes a bit longer to make, but is worth the wait. It has a better texture, is better for you, and fills you up longer. I add brown sugar (or splenda brown sugar) and some dried fruit. 1/2 cup in the morning stays with me til lunch, and i dont feel hungry. Plus this way you control the sugar and extra calories you wish to consume w/ it. I am on weight watchers, and will tell you this the healthiest way to eat oatmeal.
I agree with the posters who mentioned steel cut oats. They are much higher in dietary fiber than instant or quick-cook oatmeal. Yes, they take longer to cook, but there are a few easy ways around that. You can cook steel cut oats in a crockpot or rice cooker rather than hanging around the stove for half an hour. You can also put your oats and some boiling water in a thermos and let the mixture sit overnight. In the morning, you'll have hot, ready-to-eat steel cut oats.
Add fruit to oatmeal to make it healthier and taste better.
The healthiest is whole old fashioned oats. Sweeten with whatever suits your tastes, fruits if you are looking for the health benefits. My mil uses raisins and sugar free syrup for hers. I prefer brown sugar and a pinch of cinnamon.
LEAST PROCESSED FOOD IS ALWAYS HEALTHY!!!
Steel cut oatmeal - least processed
Agave nectar - if you are a person who needs sugary taste this is a great NATURAL and organic alternative without having to turn to sugar or to artificial sugar alternatives
1 teaspoon of cinnamon per serving is also a good way to add sweetness along with the many health benefits of cinnamon (especially if prone to diabetes)
Try using organic skim milk if you don't like making it with water (you'll avoid all the hormones or whatever other stuff they put into the cows).
