How do you make a perfect ice cream float?!

Question:

How do you make a perfect ice cream float?

Answers:
Always put the soda in AFTER the ice cream, or else it goes all weird.. It's not necessarily all fizz if you add the soda last.

some people say if you put in the icecream first and then the soda it is all fizz, and other people will say that if you but in the icecream last it makes the soda flat, but it kind of depends. i would put the icecream in first, and then pour the soda onto the side of the glass, that reduces the amount of fizz.

ice cream, soda, and then a cherry on top :)

1. Use your favorite root beer (or other soda) and vanilla ice cream.
2. Add the root beer first and then "float" the ice cream on top.
3. The proper "mix" is two parts root beer and one part vanilla ice cream.
4. Make the root beer float in a frosty mug, so you can watch the root beer and ice cream interact.
5. Use both a spoon and a straw to enjoy your float, or use a combination "stroon."
6. Drink your float right away.

Here's a great "adult" recipe I've used before!

This clever take on the Manhattan is a perfect adult dessert. For the best tasting float use a premium black cherry soda like Stewart's or IBC as opposed to store brands. Cook time is freeze time. This recipe was inspired by Gabriel Frasca of Spire in Boston.

2 pints vanilla ice cream, slightly softened
1/4 cup quality bourbon, plus
2 tablespoons bourbon
1/2 pint heavy whipping cream
1 1/2 tablespoons sweet vermouth
1 tablespoon sugar
1 dash Angostura bitters
1 liter cherry soda, chilled (One liter = three 12-ounce bottles)
maraschino cherries, for garnish

Add ice cream to a blender or food processor. While the machine is running quickly add the bourbon and process until it just combines. Spread the ice cream in a rectangular glass or plastic container with lid and put in freezer until firm enough to scoop, this should take about 20 minutes.

While the ice cream is freezing, whip heavy cream with vermouth, sugar and bitters until soft peaks form. Refrigerate.

Fill 4 tall glasses 2/3 of the way with cherry soda. Put a scoop of ice cream into each glass and top with the chilled whipped cream. Place maraschino cherries on top of whipped cream and serve. Enjoy!

It's all in the quality of your ingredients... I use only A&W root beer, and the best-quality vanilla ice cream I can find, usually Breyer's or Oberweiss.

Glass Mug (Larger the better) filled a little over half way with full circle scoops of blue-bell vanilla homemade then slow poured barq''s root beer almost over the rim first, take the head off of it, then pour again. Let set for about 5 min. then enjoy the heck out of it. Spoon and straw req.

OK this is easy take a large glass.Put 3 scoops(I said large) of vanilla ice-cream in it.Then take a cold A&W root beeer and slowly pour it over the ice-cream.Now eat the foam and get a straw for the rest.I usually have to get a spoon, but thats OK.You can also use less of any ingredients or orange soda, red soda.I prefer A&W its the American way.....

vanilla ice cream
then add root bear too it

I think it's vanilla ice cream and root beer.

~

16 oz glass with 2 scoops of ice cream, pour COLD root beer just to the top of the ice cream

If you put soda in then drop in ice cream, it will foam up and run all over the place and make a mess. Put the ice cream in first then you can pour the soda in slowly.

2 cups of root beer, 1 cup of ice cream!!! EAT UP!!!

The perfect float is made with Dr. Pepper and chocolate ice cream. It's heaven!

a&w rootbeer and 2 scoops of strawberry ice cream!!!

put little water wings on the ice cream scoop-sorry-I od'd on my silly pills! but you have a lot of good answers here and it being in the week hours of the morning, my brain can't wrap around something better than the answers here.
