How do you make icing if you lack a mixer?!

Question:

How do you make icing if you lack a mixer?

Answers:
It depends on what kind you're going to make. For a nice fluffy buttercream frosting like bakery cakes come with, you really need a mixer or a food processer. You can *try* doing it in a blender, but it will take *constant* stopping and scraping down and the results won't come out as nice. But, if one of those thin hard shells of icing will work for you, it's very easy to make an icing from powdered sugar and either water or lemon juice - just stir together and pour over the item you're icing.

What did they do before electricity.
A Spoon

use a whip or beater.

Stir it really fast.

Ever hear of a wire whip, or a spoon, or a fork. Use the thing that was used before the invention of the electric mixer, I have also seen hand crank type beaters.

I don't always use my mixer - just use a wooden spoon and elbow grease.

whipped cream + cream cheese (microwaved untill soft) mix with fork or wisk. good on carrot cake

Do it how they did it in the old days...strong arm the stuff!
