Cooking noodles?!
Cooking noodles?
I was boiling water for the noodles and I put in the salt and out of habbit some oil. I remember awhile ago I saw a cooking show that said adding oil didn't really do much. What does it do and do I even have to put it in?
Answers:
A little oil in the water accomplishes nothing. Salt, however, is critical for the taste and texture of the pasta. The chefs on TV seem to like to tell you to salt it until "it tastes like the ocean." That's not easy to quantify, but it gives you the idea not to undersalt it. If you are concerned about the pasta sticking, add a few drops of olive oil to the pot after the pasta is drained. And don't EVER rinse pasta unless it is for a salad. That will totally sabotage the sticking qualities of your sauce.

Been an Italian my whole life.
u use it so the noddles dont stick to the bottom of the pot, but i dont use it
What ?
You do not have to put it in. It stops the noodles from sticking together.
the oil is to keep the noodles from sticking...salt does the same thing...i mean if you rinse your noodles when you are done you really dont need them.
I use it to keep pasta(usually spaghetti) from sticking together.
i add just a spash of oil just to keep them seperated. they wont stick together
so they dont stick togather.
I use olive oil.
Not to my knowledge. The salt only makes the water cook faster and the oil would only add more calories. Noodles taste fine just cooked in water.
Some people say it keeps the pasta from sticking together and some people say it keeps the water from boiling over...from personal experience I can tell you that it does neither and is totally unnecessary.
I still do it because it seems to keep them from sticking together. Olive oil give them a little flavor as well.
NO! You don't really need to add salt or oil to the pot, as long as you are using a large enough pot, and enough water. Also make sure you give it a good stir or two in the first minute of cooking to separate the strands.
Most chefs will tell you that adding oil to the pasta water actually coats the pasta, making your own sauce not cling as well to it.
I never put anything in my pasta water, and it always comes out fine!...and I make a LOT of pasta!! lol!
I always put in a bit of olive oil to keep the pasta from sticking together.
Supposedly it's supposed to make the noodles not stick to each other, but even if you put oil in the noodles it still sticks. I boil my noodles then put it in a strainer, then I add a glob (yes, I said glob) of margarine to enhance the flavor of the noodles.
It supposedly keeps the noodles from sticking together. No it is not necessary.
some people put it in to keep the noodles form sticking but I usually wait until the noddles are done cooking and once I drain them I add Olive oil or butter to keep them from sticking
