Jello and pineapple, toxic?!

Question:

Jello and pineapple, toxic?

Someone recently told me that adding fresh pineapple to jello can be toxic. They say it even tells you not to do it on the box. I thought that was just because it wouldn't set properly. Anyone know for sure?

Answers:
not toxic. it won't set properly.

The enzymes in fresh pineapple will not let jell-o set properly. It's not toxic at all. When you can pineapple, those enzymes are taken out and the jell-o will set properly.

LOL!!! it doesn't say this on the box , add all the pinapple you want. if it was toxic I never would have survived elementary school all those years ago!!!!

Tell "someone" thanks for the laugh!!!! ;)

It isn't toxic but the jello wont jel. It just stays all liquid. I haven't read the box of Jello lately but I'm sure it does. That is why you never ever find pineapple in Jello.

Fresh pineapple contains bromelaine, an enzyme that is actually used to tenderize meat and is great for rheumatoid arthritis, but it breaks down the gel agents in Jello. You can use canned pineapple but if you really want to use fresh pineapple, you would have to cook it partially to be able to.

I don't think so
