1/3 cup sugar
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 cup whole milk
2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1/4 cup chopped dried pears
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup water
1 cup pear nectar
2 Tbsp. butter
1/2 tsp. ground ginger

In large bowl mix together flour, sugar, baking powder, and cinnamon. Add milk and oil and mix just until combined. Stir in pecans and dried pears. Spread in bottom of 3-4 quart crockpot. In small saucepan, mix brown sugar, water, pear nectar, butter, and ginger.
Bring to a boil and boil for 2 minutes, stirring frequently. Pour over batter in the crockpot.
Cover crocpot and cook on high for 2 to 2-1/2 hours until a toothpick inserted 1" into the center of the cake comes out clean. Remove cover from crockpot, turn off crockpot, and let cake stand, uncovered, for 30 to 40 minutes to cool a bit before serving. There will be a tender cake that has formed over a caramel sauce; turn the servings over as you scoop them out of the slow cooker.

TRIFLE
Buy a package of Swiss rolls. Cut them each into three and line the bottom and sides of a glass casserole dish.
Pour about 1/3 cup of sherry, port wine or fruit juice evenly over the Swiss rolls, allowing it to soak into the cake.
Pour a tin of frozen strawberries over it. You can add a tin of madarin orange segments as well.
Make a recipe for custard using custard powder such as Bird's. To prepare it you mix two tablespoons of sugar with two tablespoons of custard powder. You make a paste with half a cup of milk. Heat the paste and then add another 1 and 1/2 cups of milk. Cook it until it begins to thicken. Do not let it burn.
Pour the custard over the Swiss roll and fruit in the glass casserole dish.
Let it sit in the refigerator for a few hours for the flavours to mix.
Whip about a cup of whipping cream with a small amount of sugar and vanilla in it. Decorate the top of the dessert. You can sprinkle slivered almonds over it if you like.
i'm a lazy fifteen year old, and i make this dessert all the time!
you just get a piece of that frozen puff pastry stuff and put it on a baking tray.
sprinkle some icing sugar and (if you have it) almond meal on the pastry.
then grab some fresh or frozen berries (i like using blueberries) and put them on top.
stick it in the oven for not long, about 10 minutes. just judge when you think its done.
sprinkle some icing sugar over the top for effect, and done!
easy as pie!
this is an easy recipe and can be made a day before
