Hot peppers in chili?!

Question:

Hot peppers in chili?

I am cooking chili in the crock pot all day, so I'm putting it together now. I have 4 jalape?o peppers that I can use, but is that too much or not enough? It's for enough chili that fills a 5-6 quart crock pot. We like it hot, but not super hot.

Thanks!

Answers:
every pepper is different so it would be hard to say exactly......... i would go with 2-3 to be safe and you can always take a little nipple to see how strong or weak they are, thats what i do....... if weak i'd say throw them all in..... heehaaaaa!!!

I would put about 2 in there then.

put in some more maybe like 5 or 6

yeah, throw 'em in with the seeds (seeds are the hottest part) it'll even it out just fine. :) sounds yummy!!!

Split the peppers in half and take the seeds and the white insides out, then add them to the chili.
This will give you good heat and good pepper flavor without killing anyone.
If you diced them up more, it would create more heat so leave them just cut in half with the insides removed.

I wouldn't put more than a half of a pepper! Jalapenos are hot!! You can always let everyone add a bit more to theirs as they like. Good luck

Jalapenos are pretty mild but you never know what an individuals heat tolerance is. Start out with 2 and as it cooks you can always add more, remember it's like salt, you can allways add more but it's impossible to take it back once it's in there.

hi my name is billie how are you today. no you don,t use that in chili. use chili powder it,s just like it but use alittle because it,s hot to chili powder is better than jalapeno,s because you can ruin the flavor. so i recommend chili powder you,ll love it if you want anymore recipes just e-mail me billiegotmail@yahoo.com good luck with your chili billie

Contrary to popular belief the seeds are NOT the hottest part.

Q. Where does the "heat" reside in the chile pepper? Many claim it is ALL in the seeds. I have also heard that the capsaicinoids are stored in the membranes of the chile.
A. Capsaicinoids are located on the chile membrane, or in the placental tissue, which holds the seeds. Although many people believe the seeds to be the hottest, seeds do not produce any capsaicin, but do absorb some from the placental tissues during processing.

that's good!

i would use two and be sure to seed them. You can always make it hotter later, but you can't take the heat out if it's too much!

1 to 2 of your peppers would be enough. But be sure to clean the seeds out of the peppers, first, and then slice them small. And wear rubber gloves when preparing the jalapenos. They can burn you, or so I once heard
