Salad suggestions for a girl scout event?!
Salad suggestions for a girl scout event?
I need to take a salad to a girl scout picnic so I want to try and find something that isn't overly "grownup". Any suggestions? I'm tired of the traditional mayo-based potato and/or macaroni salad.
Answers:
Fluffy Tropical Salad
1-20 oz. can of crushed pineapple, undrained
1/2 cup sugar
2 Tablespoon flour
1 egg, beaten
1 Tablespoon vinegar
5 cups chopped tart apples
3/4 cup chopped peanuts
1-8 oz. package whipped topping
Drain pineapple, reserving the liquid.
Combine sugar and flour in a medium saucepan.
Gradually add pineapple juice, egg, and vinegar.
Bring sauce to a boil, stirring constantly.
Remove from heat and chill for one hour.
Combine pineapple, apple, and 1/2 cup peanuts.
Add chilled sauce and mix lightly.
Fold in whipping cream.
Place entire salad in a serving bowl and sprinkle the remaining peanuts on top.
TIP: Place the salad in the Large Bowl size of our Ziploc? Containers-especially if you plan on taking this salad with you to a gathering.
Fruit salad, chunky chicken salad with pecans and apples.
You can get these salads at albertsons some are salsa, and BLT these salads are really good and in the BLT salads it has bacon and dressing and croutons
how about a fruit salad, ambrosia, or gelatin salad?
Just take cut up veggies and 3/4 types of dip.
Fruit salad is a great idea, however at a lot of our family kid parties we have fruit kabobs made with smaller wooden skewers. The kids love them because they are a finger food.
This fruit salad is pretty good.
Anytime I go to an event where there will be kids, I always take a Jello salad. It's just one box of any flavor Jello, an 8 oz. tub of Cool Whip, a large tub of cottage cheese, and a couple cans of drained fruit cocktail. The kids love it and I always bring home an empty bowl.

Fruit salad! I am a gs leader for daisies and brownies and it's always a hit,
Red and Green apples cubed (I use about 4 apples each kind)
Plain Yogart (the big tub, eyeball how much you need I get the big tub and use about 2/3 of it)
Red seedless grapes 1/3-1/2 bunch
and to sweeten up the yogart I put in about 3 table spoons of splenda in (so they don't go into over drive on sugar) then mix it all up.
This salad is ALWAYS a hit at events :)
Good luck!
Ok, herees a recipe maybe the girls would like, its called mamma Trudys under the Sea fruit salad, you will need 1 package of lime jello-Pears and peaches all cut up, First make the jello in an cassorole long dish, add the peaches and pears, and i half cup of mini marshmellows all in one dish, when it cools, in refrigerator you can see the fruit all in it and marshmellows, They Get a large head of lettuceCut ther lettuce up and lay on another cassorole dish, and cut the jello into squares, and lay the jello squares on top of the lettuce, Lay another cup of marshmellows on the top of the finished jello, maybe add a cherry ontop, Oh soo good, and healthy
How about a fruit salad? Just fruit, no dressing needed. A fruit bowl. I did this once at a get-together a few years ago. I got a few different melons, and made melon balls, and, if you would like, you could throw in some grapes-various green/red ons in with the melons. There is watermelon, canteloupe, honeydew, and I even found a santa melon. You might, if you don't want to do just those fruits, maybe slice up some oranges (not necessarliy to go into the salad-separate-but nearby on a plate). Or, you could make a jello salad, with fresh fruit (canned fruit is okay too) in it.
I hope this helps answer your question. Have fun at the picnic and take care!
make a sweet girl scout cookie salad, w/mint cookies
peas salad
use fresh fruit like blueberries, strawberrys, and watermelon to make a fruit salad. use equal amounts of cream cheese and marshmellow to make a dip. colorfully balance the fruit, and put the dip in a small container.
My favorite is a "TACO SALAD" made MY way
tear or cut lettuce into bite size pieces
& place in a large bowl you can place a lid on
add chopped tomaotes, finely chopped onion, sliced black olives & grated medium cheddar cheese.
cover & refridgerate
In a separate bowl with a lid place heated chili with beans - I always use Hormel Turkey Chili. Basically you use as much as you feel like using. For this family, it is (2) regular sized cans. I have to make this by the truck load when I do make it. Be sure to heat the chili all the way through & keep it separate from the salad at this time & do not refrigerate it. You want it "warm" when you add it to the rest.
Be sure you have a bag of Nacho Cheese Doritos handy as well.
Now when you arrive at the picnic, open the large salad bowl & pour in the, by now, WARM chili & stir carefully. Then, add as many Doritos as you wish & again stir them in carefully. This has been a favorite of ours for a long time. Just don't add the chili & chips before arriving at the picnic. The chips & salad will be really soggy.
Other things that can be served with this are the usual taco stuffs, taco sauce or what we like with it is sour cream & tobasco!!!!!
