Definitely Pavlova. It is an Australian / New Zealand Icon.
Pavlova
3 egg whites
3 tablespoons cold water
1 cup caster sugar
1 teaspoon vinegar
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
3 teaspoons cornflour
Beat egg whites in an electric mixer until stiff. Add water and beat again. Add sugar gradually while still beating. Slow beater and add vinegar, vanilla and cornflour. Line an oven tray with baking paper. Draw a 22cm circle on the paper, spread the Pavlova to within 2cm of the edge of the circle, keeping the shape round and even. Smooth top surface over. Bake in a preheated oven at 150oC (300oC) for 45mins, then leave to cool in the oven. Decorate with whipped cream and fresh fruit.
All time fav dessert is trifle. It's easy and you can interchange the parts depending on what you have on hand or what you're in the mood for. Here's how I normally make it.
Layer the following ingredients in a large trifle bowl:
sliced Sara Lee pound cake
vanilla pudding
Nilla wafer crumbs
real whipped cream
caramel sauce
and that's it. If you want you can sub fresh fruit, different types of cakes or puddings or even brownies.
banana pudding,
LOL I make better cookies and stuff than my granny did.
As to a favorite, depends on who you're cooking for or where you're taking the dessert, formal v. informal, kid friendly or not.
I love to make lemon bars and REAL Cheesecakes but the most successfully dessert I take to potlucks or basically anywhere are Scotcharoos:
In a pan on your stove top over medium heat, bring the following to a gentle boil:
1 Cup of white sugar

1 1/2 Cups of smooth Peanut Butter
When the above reaches a gentle boil, remove from heat and stir in 6 Cups of Rice Krispies. Mix well. Put into a 9x13 pan and smooth out the top. Set aside to cool. When it cools:
In a pan on your stove top over medium/low heat, melt until smooth:
1/2 bag of chocolate chips
1/2 bag of butterscotch chips.
When melted and smooth, spread over the bars. Let cool, the top will harden. Cut and serve! Yummo
