Tisdale Vineyards is a good wine to cook with and you can find it at walmart for $1.95. Both red and whit wines.

you do not have to drink wine right after opening. Put the cork back in the bottle and put in fridg. should keep for as long as you want.

You don't have to use it all, nor do you have to drink it immediately. I have a bottle of white wine in my refrigerator that I opened for company one evening, and we didn't end up drinking it. I've used it for cooking ever since, and it's been there for a while now. I used to buy an inexpensive red wine (with a screw top lid) for cooking, and just kept it in the refrigerator. Now I just buy Charles Shaw wine, which is also known as "2-buck Chuck". I use what I need and just keep the rest for next time.

You can also use wine as an addition/substitute for water in many different recipes(soups, desserts, marinades, etc...). wine can be stored for a good while in the right conditions the previous answers tell you so. Good wine is good wine, no matter how much it costs.

You don't have to buy expensive wine to cook with. I've bought the 4packs of mini-bottles to use just for cooking.
