Is there any way to make roast potatoes without using an oven?!

Is there any way to make roast potatoes without using an oven?

I don't have one at the moment and I just wondered if it's possible.

Ever hear of roasting bags? They are clear plastic like baggies, in which you can roast vegetables, meats or fish in the oven or micro-wave. I only know the SANITAS brand but surely there are lots more in your supermarket.

Place a couple of peeled and washed potatoes, cut in half, into a roasting bag. Sprinkle with salt and pepper, and pour a little bit of olive oil. Gently move the potatoes around in the bag so that the salt and olive oil cover all sides of the potatoes.

Tie the bag with the special little tie thingies that come in the box of baggies. Puncture the tied bag with a pin 2-3 times, otherwise it will burst from all the steam it gathers (see the directions on the Baggie bod) and place in a microwave. Cook at 500 for about 20 minutes.

The potatoes are deliciously cooked keeping all the flavor in place. I then cut and place the potatoes on a plate and add some freshly cut onions, cucumber, pieces of tomatoes, a couple of boiled eggs cut into pieces and pour olive oil and lemon or vinegar. It 's a whole meal in itself.

you could try to par boil them,dry them thoughraly then deep fry them,,,

Yeah, stick em in oil..take a blow torch and blow em away..

you could use a slow cooker like a crock pot

my nan does hers on the stove, shallow fried slowly in a deep frying pan. they're awesome!

have you got a barbaque you could put them on there if not i dont think there is any other wat apart from go to morrisons they sell them on the chicken counter that are already cooked.

you can roast potatoes on a grill otherwise you can make fried potatoes in a fry pan.

Yes, they will not quite be roast but the next best thing.
Cut the potatoes up and boil them until they are firm but cooked, then drain all the water off and put the to one side for a moment and heat up a frying pan/deep fat fryer.
If you use a frying pan, fry them on each side until they are crispy enough - or with the deep fat fryer you can put them in for 3 to five minutes maybe longer keep checking them and see how crispy you want them.
Dont forget to shake them/put them on some absorbent kitchen roll to take off all the excess fat, cos in excess it will make em too greasy. You may even find you prefer cooking them this way. Its quicker than doing an oven roast!

My question would be what DO you have? If you have a grill, I definitely recommend you use that. Just wrap your potato in aluminum foil, poke a couple small holes in the potato and lay that potato amongst the coals. In about 30 minutes you will have a potato that is even better than an oven baked potato.

Otherwise, you could use the microwave, poke some holes in the potato and cook until you can easily poke a fork through it.

If you also do not have a microwave, then try this: take the potato, skin and all and scrub it under some warm water (to get rid of the dirt, etc.). When it is clean, put it in boiling water and boil it until you can easily poke it in the center with a fork. It won't be as good as a roasted/grilled potato but it will taste better than a microwaved potato and if you leave the skin on it will help keep it in one piece.

no afraid not unless your microwave has a convection setting. I would recommend these, they are obviously much smaller and cheaper than an oven.

You can't roast without an oven. If you have a grill,that would work or just fry them in a slillet with oil and make them a nice golden brown with a crisp.

boil them until they are tender,then put in a chip pan until they are golden brown,really nice

I guess you could cover them in oil, then foil and stick them in the embers of a barbeque or oil them and salt and pepper them and stick them under the grill if you have a separate grill from your oven. I do know it can be frustrating.

microwave, grill, barbecue, also cover them in hot ashes if you havea fireplace heated by wood/coal. I remember using a big pot with lid, over the hob and using it as oven but you have to be care full about how hot it should be .
