How to tell if oil in frying pan is hot enough for fried chicken?
I don't own an oil thermometer, just a meat thermometer...
Answers:
throw a pinch of bread crumbs or flower in the oil and if it starts sizzeling up you're good to go.
Drop just a tiny bit of flour in the oil.
um dont know try touching it with your finger if you burn it then yeah id say its hot enough to cook the chicken.
Dip your fingers in water and sprinkle into the oil. If the water sizzles, the oil is hot enough.
Get a candy thermometer. Oil should be about 325F and cook the chicken about 10-12 minutes on each side.
Use the old bread cube trick:
If the thermometer is not available, the next best thing is the bread test. Drop a 1 inch cube of day old bread into the hot fat or oil, and then count the time required to bring it to a golden brown. If it takes too long, or the bread browns too quickly adjust the heat, put in another cube and check fat again.
Fat or oil at 325-350 degrees will brown a 1 inch cube of bread in 90 sec.
Fat or oil at 365-375 degrees will brown a 1 inch cube of bread in 60 sec.
Fat or oil at 375-400 degrees will brown a 1 inch cube of bread in 40 sec.
That's a pretty reliable test if you don't have a thermometer.
My favorite way is to sprinkle flour into the supposedly "hot oil", if it bubbles you know you're ready to fry. Enjoy!!!!!!!
carefully drop a drop ot two of water if is sizzles and spurts at you it is hot enough
