What are some good Girl Scout Camping Recipies?
Some thing thats not to hard and you can do with 1st Graders?
Answers:
Banana Boats
Peel a strip out of a banana. Slice a "v" down the length of the banana. Remove. Fill "v" with chocolate chips and mini marshmallows. Replace the peel. Wrap tightly in foil. Put on coals of fire until warmed through.
Girl Scout Sodas
Take an orange and roll it on a hard surface until very soft (be careful not to break the peel) Cut a slit in the top of the orange just big enough to insert a peppermint stick. Then use the peppermint stick like a straw. the acid from the orange will make holes in the peppermint. Sounds like it wouldn't taste good, but very yummy!
Hobo Meatloaf
Make hamburger patties. Place an Onion slice on a piece of foil. Out the burger on top of the onion. Put sliced potatoes and sliced carrots on the burger. Season with season salt. Wrap tightly in the foil. Cook on coals for about 45 minutes, turn once
SMORES!!!!!!!!!!!! and hot dogs
Bacon and eggs, dough boys of course, individual pocket dinners (chicken pieces, sliced potato, veggies, butter), layered in foil, wrapped tightly and baked in the coals of a fire, big kettle of Surprise Soup (everyone brings one soup ingredient they like, mix all together), big pot of chili. Hope this helps!
Dough boys - wrap pizza dough around the end of a stick, about 6" down the stick. Bake over the fire until the dough is done. Slide the dough off the stick and fill the cavity with jelly. Eat while warm. These never work, either the dough doesn't cook through or it sticks to the stick, but they're traditional.
Oh man! My troop was known as the Gourmet Chefs of camping! first graders a bit young to do a lot of stuff with, although as long as there are plenty of adult helpers, i'm sure you could do a lot.
we used to make dutch ovens and we'd bake potatoes and cook brownies in them. for dinner, we cooked chicken marinated in italian dressing, and you can cut up whatever veggies you'd like. you make a pocket out of aluminum foil, although they have premade ones now that you can buy, just place the chicken in with your veggies and marinade it with the dressing and cook for about 10-15 mins and you're set. add the baked potato (which you could also cook by just wrapping in aluminum foil and placing by coals) and you have yourself a decent meal!
it's healthy, fun to do, creative.
you could also make s'mores for dessert instead of using the dutch ovens. s'mores are always a good time, especially when you're young.
we used to make pancakes and bacon for breakfast, too. we'd bring along a griddle to lay across the grate on the fire. it always worked out well. just remember, soap the outsides of the pans, makes it easier to get all that black stuff off!
have fun!
make foil dinners
you can use hamburger patties, small steaks or chicken breasts.
1 per person, peeled and diced potatoes, diced onions, diced green peppers, sliced fresh mushrooms, canned carrots, seasoning salt and pepper.
Give a lager sheet of foil to each girl and let them build their own, so they can add what they like. Add 2 Tablespoon butter to the steak or chicken, no need to add it with the hamburger. Wrap tight and either place on a hot grill or you can put them right in the hot coals{ if you put it in the coals you might want to double wrap it to keep it from ripping} for about 25 minutes for hamburger and 45 for steak or chicken.
You can do the same thing for dessert by using fresh pineapple, oranges, bananas add a couple Tablespoons butter and brown sugar and cook the same way for about 10 to 15 minutes. They can eat this right out of the foil or dump it over a slice of pound cake This is so yummy
