Can you cook batter for chicken in the oven?
I want to make hot wings but I don't want to fry them. If I batter the wings, will it come out ok baking it in the oven? Also, what temperature and time do you recommend?
Answers:
Don't "batter, flour them...
Buffalo Chicken Wings
Vegetable oil, for the pan
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup Crystal Louisiana Hot Sauce
1 dash ground pepper
1 dash garlic powder
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp paprika
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1/4 tsp salt
10 chicken wing pieces, thawed
=== ON THE SIDE ===
Bleu cheese dressing
Celery sticks
Combine the butter, hot sauce, ground pepper, and garlic powder in a small saucepan over low heat. Heat until the butter is melted and the ingredients are well-blended.
Combine the flour, paprika, cayenne powder, and salt in a small bowl. If the wings are frozen, be sure to defrost and dry them. Put the wings in a large bowl and sprinkle the flour mixture over them, coating each wing evenly. Put the wings in the refrigerator 60 to 90 minutes. This will help the breading to stick to the wings.
Arrange the chicken pieces on the lightly oiled racks of 2 roasting pans and bake them in a preheated , 400°F. oven, turning them once carefully, for 25-35 minutes. until it is cooked through.
Quickly put the wings in a large bowl. Add the hot sauce and stir, coating all of the wings evenly.
Serve with bleu cheese dressing and celery sticks on the side.
Oven-Fried Chipotle Chili Chicken
2 whole canned chipotle chilies in adobo (available at Mexican and Hispanic markets) or 2 teaspoons chili powder
3/4 cup mayonnaise
6 chicken drumsticks (about 1 1/2 pounds)
6 chicken wings (about 1 pound)
2 1/4 cups fine fresh white bread crumbs
1/4 tsp cayenne, or to taste
1 In a food processor blend together the chipotles, the mayonnaise, and salt and pepper to taste until the mixture is smooth. In a baking pan arrange the chicken pieces in one layer and coat them completely with the mayonnaise mixture. Chill the chicken, covered, for at least 1 hour or overnight.
2 In a large bowl combine the bread crumbs, the cayenne, salt and pepper to taste and coat each piece of chicken with the bread crumb mixture, patting the mixture on lightly. Arrange the chicken pieces on the lightly oiled racks of 2 roasting pans and bake them in a preheated 425°F. oven, turning them once carefully for 30 minutes. Reduce the temperature to 375°F. and bake the chicken for 10 to 20 minutes more, or until it is cooked through.
Servings: 6
The wing recipe i make is thawed chicken wings with 1/2 cup of olive oil and 1/2 cup of hot sauce mixed together and poured over the wings. I recommend cooking them at 425 for about and hour or so and turning them in the middle.
If you are using batter as in 'crispy chicken' you can surely put those in the oven. Do it just like you would when making chicken breasts.
You still need to fry long enough to harden the outside of batter. Then put in 375 degree oven for about 45 minutes.if you don't do it this way the batter will be soggy and probably will fall off. If you are using a thin liquid for the sauce on them the you can bake and every 15 minutes baste them.
I do I just make it as If I were frying it
and bake it at 375 for an hour I turn
it or the flour part stays powdery.
I use flour,lawrys,and black
pepper on a olive oil
sprayed cookie sheet.
and 15 minutes till the end I ad
wing sauce or after my kids like mild.
No batter, that would just turn out awful. I have a great recipe for wings, but you need to fry them. I would suggest broiling them, watch them carefully and turn often. If you want to bake them, just season them with salt, pepper and garlic powder and bake at 350 for at least 45 minutes, check for doneness. For dipping melt 1/4 cup of butter and 1/2 to 3/4 bottle of Jack Daniels Bar B Que sauce. Take chicken out of oven and roll in dipping sauce, set aside and serve with celery, baby carrots and your choice of Ranch or Blue Cheese

if you are going to bake them, just brush on whatever u r using such as frank's red hot ,batter does not bake well in the oven.just take your chicken and deep fry it in a pan when it floats to the top,put it in a baking dish, add franks red hot with butter and bake for 30 minutes, serve with ranch or blue cheese dip, yummy
