How many cups of dry rice is equal to 1 cup of cooked rice?!

Question:

How many cups of dry rice is equal to 1 cup of cooked rice?

I made one cup of dry rice...and only took 1 cup from that after it was cooked. Im trying to figure out how much cooked rice I had, in dry form.....probably doesn't make much sense...but I'd like to know. Im not sure if theres any way of figuring this out.

Answers:
The usual proportion is 1:3, in other words, 1/3 c dry rice will yield 1 c cooked, 1 c dry rice will yield 3 c cooked, etc. There may be some variation depending on the type of rice, but this is the standard.

experience! Also have read it but don't remember where

generally, 1/2 a cup of dry rice will give you 1 cup of cooked rice. this can vary a little depending on the brand and quality of rice. So start with half a cup. If that is too much, reduce a little.

One third of a cup of dry rice yields one cup of cooked.

1/2 cup dry rice + 1 cup water = 1 cup cooked
This is for long grain, not Uncle Ben's or the like.
I always cook 1 dry to 2 part wet.
This doesn't work for brown rice, it eats more water so
1/2 cup dry brown rice + 1 1/4 cup water = 1 cup cooked

A little more than 2/5ths, almost one half cup, depending on the type of rice.

For every measure of dry rice the recommended proportion by experienced cooks ,is two measures of water or other liquid, the end result is almost three times the quantity of dry rice used .I am from India where a medium grain rice is used for ever day cooking, long grain basmati for special occasions, but rice cooking is an every day affair, usually at each meal.

well usually it's 1/2 cup dry uncooked rice turns to 1 cup cooked... says so on my rice cooker anyway...
