Why did this egg do this?
i was going to fry an egg for my self yesterday and so i cracked it onto the frying pan. out popped the egg. at the yolk it had a streak of blood through it. just a little one. so what does that mean. does it mean it was a bit alive???

yuk... lucky i didnt eat it then. does that mean that if the egg was kept a bit longer it would have made it to a chick??

but i thought that they were never able to get fertalised because males and females are in differant pens. and that the 1st awnser is the right one

It means that the egg was fertilized. They do their best to keep those from getting through, but nobody's perfect.
It means it was fertile. Lots of eggs purchased at the supermarket are, and are marked as such. It is totally normal, and if you've eaten eggs all your life you've eaten countless numbers of these and never known. There is no difference in taste, quality or shelf life. Most farm-fresh eggs are of this sort. I have a rooster and two hens and our eggs are fertile and pretty damn good. Take care!
Yup. It's part of it and happens all the time. The eggs we eat (unless we are eating balut) are not "fertile" all the way.
It would not grow into a chick, because the egg had not been incubated (kept warm), but had been refrigerated. It would have been safe to eat it, but I agree yuck!!

you supposed to have seen it before or you just havnt pay attention. just leave it or take the blood dot with spoon, no difference at all.
balut is fertilized duck egg. you let the chick form in it then boil it. when you cracked the boiled egg you'll meet the half formed chick. you can see the organ and limbs. thats balut and yes some ppl find its disgusting its very popular in philipine ( or thai? i believe its in phil)
It is just part of the egg. The chicken has to be fertilized once in order to start the process of egg laying. However, that does not mean all her eggs are potential chicks. This would only happen when she is feeling broody and sits on the egg for the prescribed number of days.
The "blood" speck is not a problem unless you are Jewish - they have special dietary laws.

Darling what you got was a fertilized egg. An un fertilized egg has a small amount of white in it, but if a rooster gets to the hen beforehand it will have a small spot of red, if the hen doesn't sit on it to incubate it then you will have what you found. Most all eggs you purchase at the market are cage raised and the eggs are never fertilized. Did yours come from a farm?
Don't eat it..it was almost a chick...also when you crack an egg, I found it best to smell it before putting it in the pan...in case it's bad..you'll know..believe me
I don't know about anyone else, but for those who keep "kosher", we check each egg one at a time. If there is a streak of blood, it is immediately thrown out - it is contaminated, and not considered edible.

yuk....i think it was alive and didnt refridgerate it enough but im not so sure.....or the mother of the chick had an accidernt and it started to bleed while in the egg.....im juss guessin

The egg you bought is a fertile one. It has been exposed to a temperature which could hatch the egg within a period of time. The blood stripped in the egg shows that there's life in it. There's nothing wrong about it should eat the cooked egg with blood stripped. In some countries like the Philippines, eggs were placed in an incubator for a number of days to develop the embryo. After a certain days eggs shall be cooked and sold. It is a delicacy in the Philippines called "Balut" For some it taste very delicious.

The egg was fertile and it is said that the blood streak will cook out and the egg is still safe to eat.....But I wouldnt thats gross. I always crack my eggs into a small dish before throwing it into anything I am planning on cooking....could you imagine trying to bake a cake and a bloody egg fell in....eww. Start cracking eggs in a dish before cooking them, it saves alot of problems!
