Can you prepare dough for bread 24 hours before baking it?!

Question:

Can you prepare dough for bread 24 hours before baking it?

I am having a dinner party and want to prepare the dough for the bread in advance, is it ok to prepare it the evening before and bake it the next evening?

Answers:
You could prepare it the evening before, then put it in the fridge (yes, really) overnight. Knock it back in the morning, then let it prove the second time in the fridge. Bake it in the evening.

Make sure the tins are not overfilled as even with this method, the yeast will continue to ferment and you could end up with dough all over your fridge.

Yes just keep it in the fridge

Generally as long as you keep it refrigerated. Allow extra time for it to come to room temp and rise when you're ready.

SHould be OK if you make sure it is covered with a damp cloth and kept damp otherwise you will get a slight crust on top which you will not be able to dispose of easily. Why not have a go prior to the dinner party to make sure all is OK rather than leave it all and risk it on the night?

next time use a third milk and it tastes beautiful. yes you can.

yes you can but just ensure that befor you place in oven you must place in a fairly warm atmosphere for the yeat to take effect and then place in ovent when you notice a size difference in the dough

yes but keep it in the fridge until ready to use

Sure, just keep it in the fridge once youve kneaded it,this will give it a slow rise. Some people prefer to do this as it can give a better flavour. You will still have to punch it down, then shape it, then leave it to rise again as usual before you bake it.

I would cover with a damp cloth so that it doesn't dry out.

You sure can Chicken. Just prepare it as normal, wrap in cling-film and pop in the fridge.

Yes, do it up to the first proving. Knead it and then stick it in the fridge. Bring it out in plenty of time for it to come to room temperature and the yeast to reactivate. Knead again and then bake and fill your room with that unbeatable smell!

Of course - but keep it cool in the fridge.

yes you can
