What to eat with couscous?!
What to eat with couscous?
If couscous is a side dish or a main dish, what do I eat with it?
Answers:
It can be used just as rice is used. you can have it plain or add flavourings/vegetables/fruit etc to it. It is particularly nice with Mediterranean style meat dishes.
baked fish
I eat couscous as a side dish in place of rice or potato. Sometimes replace canned chicken stock for water for a richer taste.
grilled chicken, shrimp, pork, beef, fish
boiled shrimp
roast chicken (or rotisserie)
steamed veggies
Last time I cooked a packet of vegetables and couscous I mixed it with a cup of frozen prawns. Very nice and so easy ...
meat or salad or veg. it depends.
Couscous is like rice.Any poultry or beef or pork is good with it.Try grilling a Chicken breast and putting it atop the couscous.Marinate the chicken first in italion dressing before you grill.Make a little chicken gravy and laddle it over both when done.Yeahhhhh.This is great.
It could be a side dish in the place of rice or potato.
But I like it as a main dish - stuff a roasted sweet (red or yellow) pepper with couscous, a little bit of hummous and sauteed vegetables (mushrooms, onions, zucchini, etc.) and top with a sprinkle of feta cheese.
You can really eat anything. It is a very weird texture but you can put it with anything that you like. It is mainly for a side dish for your main course. I wouldn't use it for your main dish.
It is generally a side dish, although I have put some in salads & different types of stir fry
I serve it with cubes of beef, seasoned with salt and pepper and some curry powder, that I saute with slivered onions. Yummy!
macaroni salad and a Baked potatoe if it is your main dish. grilled chicken and a potatoe if it is a side.
Lamb Ragout.
couscous can be both a main dish or a side dish. You could add some beans and create a vegetarian version or you could add some chicken or beef/seafood. I like to make mine with some type of stock or boullion cube add some rosemary, olive oil and lemon rind or juice and some garlic..its great...it goes very well with kabobs of any kind.
As a side dish with roasted or grilled meat, especially lamb. As a main dish with steamed & seasoned or grilled vegetables.
Couscous is really good as either a main or side dish. It's easy to make and it's ready fast. You can buy flavored couscous or plain and flavor it yourself. I like to start with a little garlic and shallot in a pan with oil, add a pinch of saffron for color and spice and put some toasted pine nuts and raisins in and add chicken stock (or any stock or water) and bring to a boil. Add your couscous, turn off the heat and cover - ready in 10 minutes. The ratio is 11/2 liquid to 1 couscous. I like it with Indian food that has a lot of sauce. It soaks up the sauce nicely.
