How long do I boil an ear of corn?
Answers:
5 to 7 minutes... You're only heating the kernels which is the outer 1/4" to 1/2" on the cob. Also, any longer you start converting the sugars into starches. Boiling any longer than 7 minutes, you might as well eat canned corn.
From the link below...
Boiling
--Bring fresh water to a rapid boil.
--Add 3 tablespoons of sugar and a teaspoon of skim milk. "The milk seems to remove some minerals and enhances the color of the corn," Ferretti explains. "Extra sugar helps the corn better retain its own sugars and discourages leaching into the water."
--Add husked ears and remove after about 7 minutes of boiling.
"Never add salt to the water," Ferretti says. "Salt will toughen the kernels."

You put a ear or 2 ears of corn depends on how much you want to eat, in the water filling the pot half full, add a dash of salt, and let it boil for about 20 minutes then your ears of corn will be ready.
I boil mine 3-4 minutes.............but its better on the grill.
10-12 minutes...but you can't eat just one! :-)
10 min
If it's 'freshly picked' corn that is 'fresh and fat' then you'll only need to 'boil it' for about five minutes ... and don't put the corn into the water UNTIL it is boiling. That will 'heat it through' but won't destroy the 'flavor' ... if it's older and isn't as 'fat' when you look at the kernels, you may boil it for up to 7-10 minutes.
Place corn in enough unsalted cold water to cover (salt toughens corn). Add one tablespoon sugar, and one tablespoon lemon juice to each gallon of water.Boil uncovered for 15 minutes at a hard boil. Remove from heat; let stand for two minutes.
Hopefully this helps ya!!
some people boil them only long enough to warm the ears ― a minute or so. others like them more done & leave them in the pot for 3 minutes or more.
boil hot water. Add corn to it. let it be for 15 min. Pull it out. Smack any slobbering humans with it. Then, very greedily go to a corner. Find salt and butter. You know what to do next. Growl at anyone who comes near and devour the beast
Kansas farmboy here.
Fresh corn, I mean cut it off the stalk yourself, is good uncooked.
Good corn needs to be steamed (not boiled) for only 4 or 5 minutes.
Some people are cooking their corn too long!! Once the water boils, I throw the corn on for 5 minutes, covered. I can't imagine what the corn would look like after 15-20 minutes!!
you don't boil corn.... that makes it tough. bring a small amount of water to a boil in a large pot, add your ears of corn. turn off the heat and steam the corn until crisp/tender.
