Fresh Asparagus If Your Wondering...

for a 1 year old? just steam it and give it to him/her to eat whole with hands or make into soup.

A one year old will not appreciate it covered in lemon or butter.

What worked for my kids is to boil it, then smother it in cheese. Now I can't keep it around the house! They love it! But I must say it makes a difference if you use fresh rather than the can stuff.

steam 1/2 lb of asparagus
chill
cut into pieces
mix teaspoon of lemon juice with one tablespoon of olive oil
drizzle on asparagus
sprinkle 1/4 cup of grated parmesan, romano or asiago over asparagus
enjoy.

Asparagus is good because it is asparagus.
there are no substitutes.
steam it or blanch it till tender (1 minute or so) top it with real butter and maybe lemon zest. Keep it simple.

My first experience with asparagus was eating it raw from a field at an age just young enough to do so (5 or 6?).

If the stalk is an issue, make soup. A split pea/ asparagus soup is perfect for spring. Your one year old and your in-laws may be impressed. There will be many recipes on-line.

I think the best way to eat asparagus is to steam it adn smother it in butter and a little bit of salt
