Dinner ideas??!

Question:

Dinner ideas??

We pretty much have rice, vegetables & some sort of meat for dinner each night.

I get bored with no variety so I thought I'd ask for ideas! :-)

What do you and your family eat for dinner??

What are some ideas you could give me for what to cook up for dinner??

thanx! :)

Why not buy the super foods idea's magazine, I have got a lot of good recipes from there.
We eat spaghetti bolognaise (with veges hidden inside) alot or meatball (homemade) which is just mince, sasuage mince & french onion soup mix (Dry packet) & bbq or tomato sauce mixed together and serve with veges.
Try steak (any kind with or without bones) and sprinkle over the top with french onion soup mix(dry) and cook in the over for about 1 hour at 180 degrees.
Hope that helps you out. Happy Cooking...

BBQ meatloaf, taco salads/pizza, chicken pot pies..

Put a pork butt roast in your crock pot. Trim the fat off before and put some seasoning on it. After a couple of hours put some brown sugar on it. After four hours pour a Coke over it. When the inside temp reaches 180, turn off the crock and take the roast out. Put into a big bowl and shred apart with two forks, mix in your favorite BBQ sauce and return to the crock and let it heat through. You can also cut the roast into small chunks and put in your food processor to get it to shred. Serve over buns with some fries or onion rings and coleslaw. You can get the KFC coleslaw recipe from topsecretrecipes.com it's awesome!

Cut boneless/skinless chicken breast into strips or bite size pieces, cook up in a skillet, when pink is gone add a couple envelopes of fajita seasoning mix and some cut up peppers/onions, cook through. Serve on warm tortillas with some sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese and a side of rice.

It's hard to find new things to cook, we seem to have the same things over and over so I know what you mean. Try some of these recipe sites and see what you think.

breadsticks, delicious and simple. just take regular roll dough roll it in the breadstick shape stick it in the oven for about 10 to 15 minutes spread melted butter on it, ask your family if they want cinnamon topping, italian, garlic, parmesian, or just any other kind you want, frosting goes great for a dip for the cinnamon italian garlic and parmesian goes great with pizza sauce and ranch, simple easy and delicious side dish!

Try making a chicken pot pie or fish

chicken pot pie

chicken breasts
2 ready made deep dish pie shells
1 pack mixed vegetables (frozen)
1 pack pearl onions (frozen)
1 white potato
1 jar fat free chicken gravy

cut up the chicken breasts in to chunks. In a pan, cook the chicken until nearly done. Cut up the potato into chunks. Get the pie shell, put the chicken into the shell, add some of the mixed veggies, potatos and pearl onions. Put the gravy over this and then take the second pie shell and flip it over the filled pie shell. Let the top shell fall out of its tin so that it is draping over the filled shell. Pinch the crust of the top shell and the bottom shell together so that they are joined. Put and "x" in the center of the top shell. bake at 375 in the oven for 45 minutes to an hour.

Fish on the grill is good. Get salmon, marinate it in seasame ginger sauce (lawrys makes this). get a pineapple and cut into quarters. Cook the fish and pineapple on a grill until done.

I like to use a combination of mild and sharp cheese. Using just sharp cheese will decrease the lovely flavor of the smoked ham. Oh--and the smokier, the better. Some good combinations include Monterey jack with sharp cheddar, Swiss with mozzarella, or a mild white cheddar with Stilton (don't use more than 1/4 Stilton or you'll be overpowered). But since this is a quickie dish, you can simply use what you have on hand, even if that's just a single cheese.....we had this last night,........enjoy my recipe!

1 8-ounce package elbow macaroni
1/4 pound thinly sliced smoked ham, broken into tiny pieces
1 bunch leeks OR scallions, chopped
salt and pepper
2 tablespoons flour
2 tablespoons butter
2 cups milk
crusty bread OR store-bought Italian-style breadcrumbs
2 cups grated cheese (see cheese suggestions, above)
Preheat oven to 350°. Cook the pasta in a pot of salted water, according to package directions. Meanwhile, make a roux:........ In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and then sprinkle in the flour, stirring constantly. By the time the mixture has an even consistency, it will be as cooked as it needs to be.
Reduce heat. Stir in the milk, whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Simmer the mixture for about 4 minutes, stirring constantly to prevent scalding.
Add the cheese, simmer another 3 or 4 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent burning. Salt and pepper to taste. Remove from flame and set aside. Place the cooked and drained pasta in an oven-safe dish. Add the ham and onions, and mix using a wooden spoon.
Pour the cheese sauce over the macaroni mixture, top with a very thin layer of breadcrumbs or torn French bread crust pieces, and bake in a 350° oven for about 15 minutes.
Let finished dish set up for about 5 minutes before serving. The sauce will be thinner than a typical American mac and cheese.

This time of year its nice to have salads. Just toss together all your favorite greens and vegetables and top with grilled meat.
Throw a whole variety of salad dressings on the table and dig in. I always put a dish of feta cheese, some toasted pine nuts or almonds, and fruit is great in the salad too. Sliced apples, pineapple, oranges, melon, whatever. You don't have to put it on the salad just serve on the side . People that want it can add their own. Everyone here loves this dinner. On sunday I was watching Lydia the Italian cook on television and she made a salad I must try. She thickly sliced a large onion, placed the slices on an olive oil lined sheet pan and roasted them in the oven til brown but not too soft. She boiled potatoes. She tossed these cooked vegetables with fresh raw vegetables, olives, and capers, then dressed it all with olive oil and vinegar salt and pepper. Sounded good. Hope I helped.

Play with some new grains, pasta comes to mind but also things like beans and lentils. I cook professionally so on work nights I don't enjoy spending hours in the kitchen. I'll chop an onion & lightly brown it along with some sliced sausage, add lentils which you'd cook according to the instructions on the bag. Add a can of the already seasoned tomatoes with peppers or Italian or any other type you'd enjoy.. Pour this over cous cous which take about five minutres to cook. (This is basically a pasta that is cut so finely it eats like rice or another grain). You can dress it up further be adding diced peppers (hot or not), carrots or any other veggie you like. 20 minutes max to get this meal from stove to table including the veggie prep. For inspiration try sites like the Kraft food site that allow you to put some pantry ingredients you already have on hand and suggest recipes. Or track down a recipe that you'd like to learn to make on-line and put the ingredients on your shopping list.
