What's a good way to cook asparagus?!

Question:

What's a good way to cook asparagus?

I have fresh asparagus and I've never cooked it before. No outdoor grilling recipies please.

Answers:
Wash it well and trim off the woody ends. Peel the large end a bit to make it more tender. Bring water and lemon juice to a boil, add a bit of salt. Throw the asparagus in the water and cook until bright green and to desired tenderness. This doesn't take long - don't over cook! Remove the asparagus from the boiling water. Place it in a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking and retain the color.

Serve with lemon butter, hollandaise, vinaigrette, even your favorite salad dressing. Also good buttered and sprinkled with Parmesan cheese.

Get a fry pan and melt a little butter and minced garlic. Add asparagus for about 10 minutes on low heat and YUM!

roast or grill it

No outdoor grilling? Are you un-American? That is the best way to have asparagus. Dipped in olive oil, sprinkled in sea salt and grilled until crispy/tender.
If you want to be boring and cook like the 50's, just boil the damn things. You lose all the nutrients, flavor and texture, but who cares?

Steamed or fried in a little bit of butter

For green asparagus, make sure that you peel the lower third of the stalk.

White asparagus, peel the entire stalk.

Boil it for about 5 minutes first, to make sure that it's done. Then wrap it up in a turkey breast that has been spiced with salt, pepper, paprika and garlic. Fry up the turkey and serve with Hollandaise sauce.

You can always boil it, but if you saute it in butter, it's really good.

Hi there !! Personally, I think the best way to preserve the taste & nutritional value is to steam it & dress with EVOO & lemon juice. For the 411 on proper prep prior to cooking you can goto foodnetwork & type in asparagus for the topic. To spice it up a bit try Roasted Asparagus Bruschetta by Sara Moulton. Enjoy :)

Cut the end off of a clove of garlic, rub the asparagus, wrap them in bacon & brush them with olive oil. Sprinkle w/a little pepper & bake them on 400 for about 15 minutes. If they're too crispy for your taste, bake them a little longer to make them more tender.

*You can secure the bacon w/toothpicks broken in two.

If you dislike bacon, you can still do them as I stated just leave the bacon off & sprinkle w/a little salt.

**I don't steam them, makes them nasty, in my opinion.**

Cut about 2 inches off the base and then run the bunch under cold water. Dry them, lay them on a sheet pan with the tips facing the same direction. Drizzle with extra virgin olive oil, sprinkle with kosher or sea salt, fresh cracked black pepper, and then roast it in a 450 degree oven for about 10 minutes. If you want you can sprinkle with with a little lemon zest too.

Quick Roasted Asparagus

1.5 lbs fresh asparagus
2 Tbsp olive oil
Seasoning such as garlic pepper, lemon pepper, seasoned salt, steak seasoning

Preheat oven to 475 deg F.

Place asparagus on a baking sheet (big enough that asparagus is in a single layer) and toss with the olive oil. Sprinkle with seasoning of choice.

NOTE: oven MUST be up to temp!

Roast asparagus 7-9 minutes (7 for skinny spears and 9 for fat spears).

Yummy!
