How do I make a cake more moist?!

Question:

How do I make a cake more moist?

I made a chocolate cake with mayonnaise a couple years ago and it was great, but I can't remember how much mayonnaise I used or if I subsituted the may for the oil. I think I used 1c mayo for each box mix, does this sound right? Do you substitute the mayo for oil or use both? Also is mayo only good in chocolate cake or can you use it with any kind, like marble. I want to use a box cake mix. Any suggestions??

Answers:
It is one cup Mayo and no oil. Use the mayo in place of the oil. I would think it would be okay for marble cake also.

Add applesauce instead of the oil. Also an extra egg.

try yogurt or sour cream it works really well

dun forget to credit me:P

you can also add a package of instant pudding

i dont have a recipe that uses mayo, but i'm a pastry chef and i use the following recipe and its great:
2 c flour
2 c sugar
1 c cocoa
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 c hot coffee
1 c oil
1 c milk
2 eggs
2 tsp vanilla

sift and mix all dry ingredients.
add coffee and mix.
add oil, milk, and vanilla and mix.
add eggs one at a time and mix.
the batter is going to be thin and running.
bake at 350 degrees for 30 min or until toothpick comes out clean.
i guarantee the moistest chocolate cake.
you can multiply this recipe as many time as you want and it will come out great.
