Different ways to make grits?!

Question:

Different ways to make grits?

I'm from P.R. and the way we make grits is the same way you'd make oatmeal: with milk, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla. I heard in the South of USA they cook it with cheese? Any other ways to eat it? Do you know the recipes? I luv grits!

Directions

"Here is a recipe I learned in the Bahamas from a local version of "Bloody Mary" of "South Pacific." It is not very healthy but, of course, tastes great ... I suppose it would work with good white grits, but to us that is a sacrilege."

Prepare grits, cover and let sit off heat. Fry up bacon, drain all but a tablespoon or more of fat. Stir in eggs and scramble until almost firm. Stir in cooked grits, breaking up using spatula in a cutting motion. Add butter and mix, stir well. Serve with hot sauce. Use a good-flavored Louisiana sauce, not overly hot Tabasco. Salt and maybe pepper to taste.

Sure...add bacon, cheddar cheese and cracked pepper with green scallions. And a lil' chili sauce if you like spicy stuff...or red pepper flakes. Italians call it Palenta and you can slice it into slabs and fry in oil...yum! I'd cover those with Louisiana Hot Sauce for an added kick!

shrimp and grits is a really good dish

There is a whole passel of recipes for grits ... called "greiss" in German ... they do all sorts of things with them.....and the Italians use them somewhat like polenta: poured into a flat pan, allowed to set then sliced and baked with sauce .... or, once cooked up, put in little spoonfuls into boiling water and made like a pasta dish....

The German recipes include sweets ... very nice..you can find them online, and if you read German....you're set

Cheers!
