used to bake and assemble wedding cakes at a bakery

You use wooden dowels and stick them through the center of the cake that way when you place the second or third tier they don't fall through the center of the cake. You usually want to use 4 of them and place them in a square where the legs go up to the next tier.

keep them from sliding ? um...... take away the icing...ahahaaaaaaaaaaaaa

You use frosting or icing to hold the cake in place.
Spread a little between layers.
It will act like glue....the cake will stick to it.

Butter cream frosting my friend. Check out this link...

I like to slice across the top to remove the domed top- making the top as flat as the bottom. That's how some professionals do it. Snack on the top shave-off while you're decorating.

use wooden dowels with cardboard between each level. most use buttercream icing witch doesn't slide very easily.

you take a knife and make them even/flat across the top, then you spread a little frosting in between the layers and on the bottom of the last bottom layer. that should stop it from sliding all over the place.
