I've never tried it quite that way... I don't see why it wouldn't work, except that your chicken won't be brown. What I do is slice about a pound of breasts thin (it works best for me if the boneless breasts are still a bit frozen), then heat some olive oil in a pan with garlic and stir fry the chicken til browned. Once it's brown on the outside (it may still be pink inside) I add a cup of water and the seasonings, and let it simmer until the water is mostly gone, like 10-15 minutes.

Yes.

absolutely yes and oh it sounds so good im gonna have to make some. It works just the same as using hamburger meat only your using chicken

yes. if you are using alot of water, It's called poaching. . I use chicken stock/broth though. Season with some taco seasoning after cooking and shredding.
you can also season and saute

you should first cook the chicken, shred it, then place in a pan with a small amount of water and taco seasoning, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and a little taco sauce once the water has evaporated. enjoy

I wouldn't boil it. It will make the meat dry and tough. Just simmer it. This will poach the chicken and it will make it moister. Once it is done, shred the chicken by pulling it apart with two forks. If you are planning on adding some taco seasoning after it is cooked - you may want to add a little to the water as well to infuse the chicken with the flavors in the spice mix.

yes

Yes OR you could season the meat and let it marinate a little while first and then put it in the simmering water.

Additional;

It won't take long at all, if you single layer it, Keep a lid on it and it should be done in about 20-25 min..

yes, you can do that...but you also need to add in some spices to it like cumin or chili powder. you may want to drain some of the liquids off of the meat too so it won't have the tacos so runny/soggy. you can also use a package of taco or fajita seasoning mix if you have one on hand instead.

yes you can, but i would prefer to boil the chicken whole. then when its done like about 30 -45 minutes, shred the chicken and enjoy your tacos. after you boil it with seasonings, and maybe some onion and garlic it picks up that flavor so really all you need is to salt it when its ready.

don't you think the chicken might turn out a bit rubbery? can you try this:

take all the same proportions and ingredients (assuming here that you are trying to save time and calories...) and mix it together in a ziploc bag...spray a ceramic baking pan with PAM and bake the items? I would also add a little flaked red pepper for just a pinch of zing....

Go with nursemom, she's right about browning the chicken, if you just boil it, you'll lose some texture and flavor, saute the chicken if you have butter or oil...

I'd use chicken broth, fresh crushed garlic, and whole peppercorns, no salt (if you have them all available).

That's how you poach meat. I'm on a diet, that is my essential dinner every night and it's delicious. I've used the meat to make stir fries and fajitas for my husband and he thinks they're the greatest thing ever. I would assume it would be just as delicious in chicken tacos.

First and foremost, when you poach you need to leave the lid on at all times...In terms of time, I would say you should simmer it for about 10 minutes, then turn off the heat and let it sit for 20 or so. If you can manage to get all of the chicken into a single layer then 5 minutes of simmering would be fine followed by a 15 minute rest. Remember to bring it to a hard boil before you lower the heat to simmer though!

sounds good

I do not recommend boiling it unless you want to par-boil it (partially boil until midway cooked), then remove it from the bone and then you should saute it in a mixture of tsp of canola oil, sprinkle some cumin in for a smokey taco flavor, add a dash of chili powder, some onion and garlic powder, a bit of salt and a1/2 small can of tomato sauce if you want it a little saucy. You will get most of your taco flavor from the cumin (very important), oh I almost forgot add about and ounce of water and some chicken bullion granules, but omit the salt. Let simmer 10 mins at least to let flavors meld together. Fry up some corn tortillas and dice some onion, tomato, cilantro, and lime for a pi-co and you have tacos.

brown chicken
