BAKED ONION RINGS
2 egg whites
1/2 tsp. salt
1/8 tap. pepper
1/2 lg. sweet yellow onion, cut into rings
1/3 c. dry bread crumbs
Combine egg white, salt and pepper in bowl; mix well. Dip onion rings into egg mixture. Coat with bread crumbs. Place in single layer on baking sheet. Bake 450 degrees for 10 minutes or until golden brown.
Approximately 4 servings.
1 - 2 large (about 1 lb each) sweet onions
2 C milk
1 C flour
1 tsp paprika
1/4 tsp cayenne (more if you like it spicy)
salt and pepper to taste
vegetable oil for deep frying
Serves 4-6
Peel the onion and cut it into 1/3 inch slices and separate into rings. Place onion rings in a bowl with the milk and let soak for about thirty minutes.
Combine the flour with the salt, pepper, paprika and cayenne. Heat the vegetable oil to 375° F. Dredge the onion rings a few at a time in the flour mixture and carefully drop into the hot oil. A pair of tongs is useful for transferring the rings from the flour to the oil. Fry until golden brown on both sides, about 2 minutes, turning the rings over as necessary. Drain on paper towels, and serve immediately.
Slice onions thin (not too thin) cover with Tabasco (again not too much) then drop in flour(you can add a lil salt n pepper to the mix) use a sifter or colander to shake off excess flour and fry.
Get tempura(used for shrimp) ., follow directions and instead of using shrimp use thick sliced onions from large onions., follow tempura mix recipe and you will love them or get beer batter mix. my family love them, they are not fat free. Iv'e tried baking them but the taste is different. You can fry tempura way, fry fast both sides put on baking pan and finish cooking in 375 preheated oven until done about 15min.
Beer Batter Onion Rings
* 1 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 2 large sweet onions, sliced
* 1/4 teaspoon pepper
* 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
* 2 egg yolks
* 3/4 cup beer
PREPARATION:
Mix together the flour, salt, pepper, oil and egg yolks. Gradually whisk in the beer. Refrigerate the batter 3 to 4 hours before using. Slice onions into rings; separate rings and dip in the batter.Deep-fry in batches in 370° oil until golden brown.
2 soft-ball sized white onions cut in 3's to make large rings
2 cans of evaporated milk
1/2 and 1/2 of flour and cornmeal
salt, pepper, and chili powder for seasoning
Soak your rings in the evaporated milk, coat with flour mixture, fry in oil til golden. Very easy.
It all depends on how you like your rings...personally, I like mine on the thicker side (I like to taste the onion, not the batter!) and I like mine with a little kick to em.
I do them 2 different ways depending on my mood..
The tempura suggestion is a great one - the batter is lighter and crispier than a traditional batter, and is super easy to do. You can buy the batter, or make it yourself...
2 egg yolks
1 1/2 cups ice water (the ICE WATER IS KEY!!)
1 3/4 cups flour, sifted
1. In a large bowl place the egg yolks.
2. Add iced water gradually, stirring (preferably with hashi(chopsticks)) and blending well.
3. Add flour all at once, stir BRIEFLY; that is well enough to coat but leave the lumps and bumps!
Otherwise, I do a spicy beer batter - just take a bowl of flour and add beer until you have a good consistency - you want it to be like a thick pancake batter, but not so thick it's gloppy.
Then I spice em up with some cayenne pepper, paprika, black pepper, chili powder...again, depends on my mood.
Make sure you have a good, deep fry pan, and I like canola oil to cook em with. Also make sure you heat the oil well, before you start cooking...a tiny piece of bread, when dropped in, should immediately float up to the top and brown at about 5 seconds.
Don't overload the pan - they won't cook well, otherwise.
If you want to keep batches warm, place cooked rings on a baking sheet and place in 200F oven.
You kinda have to experiment with the flavors and textures that you like! Have fun with it!
I know you asked about "rings," but the first thought in my mind is the best invention ever, the "bloomin' onion." Ever eat at Outback or a different chain that has one and serves it with that dipping sauce? Go to Copykat.com. It's a site for restaurant recipes submitted by people who have mastered them in their home kitchens. It's got some great ones like Hard Rock's Potato Soup, someone else's Tiramisu, Red Lobsters biscuits, etc.. Not only does it have the recipe for the Bloomin Onion but it also has the recipe for the sauce. Happy frying! They are soooooo good, too bad it's 1:17 a.m. here. I'd love an onion right about now! ;)
slice roundals of onions- arrange them on a plate or platter,sprinkle salt,dried ground chilly powder and squeeze fresh lime juice.
No... sorry:(
try looking for it on google...
hope you find it:)
not hard, just need good tempura or check out recipes.com
